House conservatives are ready to stop the Senate immigration bill in its tracks with a potent procedural weapon should the contentious measure win passage in the upper chamber.
The trump card conservatives may hold is a constitutional rule that revenue-related bills must originate in the House. The Senate immigration measure requires that illegal immigrants pay back taxes before becoming citizens, opening the door to a House protest, dubbed a blue slip for the color of its paper.......
If we get an opportunity to do it, believe me, well do it, the aide said. I think its going to be a matter of who will get there first. A number of people in the House are dying to be fingered as the person who killed [the Senate bill]...................
Any House member can move to blue-slip a Senate-originated bill that raises revenue, though the protest requires a majority vote to send the legislation back across the Capitol and force immigration negotiators back to square one...........
YES, WE'D RATHER HAVE NO BILL THAN A BAD BILL.
That means you too, Hillary ; p
We shall see who the patriots are.
Illegals (who won’t obey the old law) are never going to pay a dime under the new law. This is such a joke...

From what I’ve heard, unless there has been an amendment, the bill does NOT require immigrants to pay back taxes. I heard it originally did require that, but President Bush asked that the provision requiring the illegals to pay back taxes be removed. Is my info incorrect, has there been a change?
This story may be a RED HERRING to get the folks to stop putting heat on Congress to reject the bill. The back taxes provision was removed from the bill by Ted Kennedy at GW’s request. The bill requires illegal immigrants to pay a $5000 fine (at $50 a month).
>>The back taxes provision was removed from the bill by Ted Kennedy at GWs request.<<
This is a brand new Bush/RINO talking point. It’s about McCain amendment 1190, which says that taxes are due if and when they get a green card. No green card, no taxes. The way they present it, is of course misleading.
This is still true:
llegals: representation without taxation (unless they get a green card)
Citizens: taxation without representation
So there’s no way to stop this, except our representives?
Jeez, that just took the wind out of my sail.
The more I hear from Bush, the more I don’t want to hear from him.
So I don’t get it....can this blue card be used or are we in trouble?
“So I dont get it....can this blue card be used or are we in trouble?”
We are in trouble....
I thought all revenue-related bills must originate in the House under the Constitution.......?
No....?
I think they are supposed to originate in the House, but if the Senate removes that part of it, then it won't be a revenue related bill.
No....?
Yes, I think so. :o)
:-D
Isn’t there still a penalty fee or something that amounts to that?
Tis revenue, aint it? Maybe I’m grasping at straws here, but I want some sort of hope...I want to believe that this country is heading down that slope, where it can never return.
Read #7. They are being sneaky. There won’t be any taxes, unless the illegal actually goes for a greencard, years later. So they can probably avoid the blue slip by doing it this way, as no taxes will be generated, unless the alien goes for a greencard years later, if ever. On the new Z visa, an illegal alien can renew it ad infinitum, and never even bother to apply for a greencard, which is what would trigger their having to return to their home country (touchback) to apply for the card. Why would any of them go, when they can remain legal residents on a visa without ever having to apply for a greencard to become an actual citizen. What a scam.
He was right to say that,...someone needs to.
“Why would any of them go, when they can remain legal residents on a visa without ever having to apply for a greencard to become an actual citizen. What a scam.”
With this Z visa, do they have a right to vote? A right to entitlements?
This is a big concern of mine.
The vote is a powerful thing, and giving it to them is just not an option.
With this Z visa, do they have a right to vote? A right to entitlements?
No, they will not have a right to vote unless they become an American citizen. They must first get the greencard, and then apply for citizenship at some amount of time afterward; not sure how long after they have the greencard they can get it.
