TOKYO: Turbulence hit a KLM flight bound for western Japan Thursday, injuring 16, including two seriously, officials and a news report said.

The plane encountered turbulence about two hours after taking off from Amsterdam, Transport Ministry official Toshiharu Osumi said.

He said that 16 people were injured, but the extent of the injuries were not immediately known.

Kyodo News agency reported two were seriously injured.

The pilot apparently decided that the injuries did not require immediate attention, Osumi said.

Don’t be surprised if they do just that. Your title is alliterative and just scary enough for a “special series on modern air travel.”

It’s good to wear your seatbelt as often as you can.

I was five years old when the family took a trip to Arizona. Boy, was I excited...loved the jet, got the little plastic wings, and insisted upon a window seat.

Then, somewhere over Colorado, this happened to our flight...people screaming and flying about the cabin; dinner trays going all over; things falling from the overhead compartments.

Let's just say I didn't consider flight attendant as a career option.

two were seriously injured.

If I was seriously injured, I'd take my chances in a Russian hospital over a 14 hour flight with a pilot who didn't avoid turbulence.

I wonder if the French bosses at KLM didn't want any gas wasted, or if the Russians didn't want the visitors.

Hey, you might have ended up flying the plane and saving the day like head stewardess Karen Black (until Chuck Heston showed up, that is).

Civilians shouldn’t fly. It’s too dangerous.

He probably checked on them after it was over. His assessment doesn’t quite match the reporter’s assessment of serious though.

You can NOT avoid all turbulence.

I was flying into DFW once. It was stormy weather. We were over the sky line and the pilot came on, congratulating the copilot for avoiding turbulent areas. Suddenly the plane almost turned sideways as he yelled “hold on”:’)

Yes, but these days most pilots are pretty good at warning the passengers before they hit it.
