silent_jonny:

Thank you for posting an awesome DOSE tonight! The photo sequence of the little African boy running into the President’s outstretched arms is beyond precious: It’s actually a metaphor for the George W Bush presidency! . . . President Bush has become the visionary champion of LIFE and LIBERTY around the world — particularly when it comes to those too weak (e.g., the unborn/born children of the world) or too oppressed (e.g., the peoples of Iraq, Afganistan, and Darfur) to defend themselves! . . . We are incredibly fortunate to have this amazing man as our president during these perilous and world-altering times!

A DR DEB RANT . . .

Our wittle wightwing talkers, bloggers, and pundits — elitist demagogues all — are having a collective temper tantrum because President Bush dared to defend himself (and his policies) against their vitriolic, unrelenting criticism . . . Of course these same whiners have attacked the President PERSONALLY and politically for YEARS and he has NOT reciprocated . . . In FACT, he didn’t reciprocate this time.

WHAT DID THE PRESIDENT ACTUALLY SAY IN HIS SPEECH TUESDAY?!

Key excerpts:

“In other words, we’re working hard to enforce the border. And we’re stepping up enforcement inside the country. I see a lot of ICE hats. These are the folks that are charged with making sure that people who knowingly hire somebody who’s here illegally pay a price. In other words, part of making sure our country is a rule of law, we’ve got to have people enforce the law. It’s against the law to hire somebody who is here illegally. That’s the law. And we’re training people here to make sure that they know how to enforce that law. And the message to employers, if you’re hiring somebody here that you know is illegal, we’re going to — there’s a consequence to be paid. That’s what a nation that bases it’s system on rule of law does. That’s what we’ll continue to do.

And ICE is active. Your folks are working hard. ICE investigations have led to more than 3,000 arrests for immigration violations since the beginning of this fiscal year; nearly 600 arrests for criminal violations, including fraud and identity theft; and nearly $30 million in penalties against businesses that have violated the law.

We’re working hard to enforce the border. The immigration debate, you hear people say, well, they’re not doing anything to enforce the border. They’re wrong, and you know they’re wrong. And I’m here to thank you for doing — for working as hard as you can.” [Read the entire speech for more examples of exactly what this administration has done and is doing to protect our borders — MUCH MORE than any previous president including Reagan . . . oh that’s right, Reagan actually campaigned for and signed an AMNESTY bill!]
-

“. . . A lot of Americans are skeptical about immigration reform primarily because they don’t think the government can fix the problems. And my answer to the skeptics is, give us a chance to fix the problems in a comprehensive way that enforces our border and treats people with decency and respect. Give us a chance to fix this problem. Don’t try to kill this bill before it gets moving. Give us a chance to make it easier for the folks who wear the uniform along our borders to do their job.”
-

“. . . This reform is complex. There’s a lot of emotions around this issue. Convictions run deep. Those determined to find fault with this bill will always be able to look at a narrow slice of it and find something they don’t like. If you want to kill the bill, if you don’t want to do what’s right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it, you can use it to frighten people. Or you can show leadership and solve this problem once and for all, so the people who wear the uniform in this crowd can do the job we expect them to do.

Now is the time for comprehensive immigration reform. Now is the time for members of both political parties to stand up and show courage, and take a leadership role and do what’s right for America.”

[NOTE: The “do what’s right” phrase is actually correlated with “solving this problem once and for all” . . . which, of course, many on the extreme right and left do NOT want — I wonder why?!

STOCKS JUMP, S&P 500 HITS RECORD CLOSE
By Joe Bel Bruno

NEW YORK - Wall Street shot higher Wednesday, sending the Standard & Poor’s 500 index to its first record close in more than seven years, as investors grew more confident that the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates in the second half of 2007. The Dow Jones industrials also reached a new high close. [YES BOYS AND GIRLS, THE S&P/DOW IS NOW HIGHER THAN IT WAS DURING THE CLINTON ‘BUBBLE’ YEARS!!! . . . AND IT’S ALL BUSH’S FAULT!]

Well .. I’m against the immigration plan because of several reasons, the most important being $5 mil to be paid to La Raza (the group who wants to repatriate CA), and then $10 mil every year thereafter .. I DON’T THINK SO!!

Thanks for the well-informed ‘rant’ on the immigration bill, I’ve been grinding my teeth for a week and have barely listened to the arguments on talk radio.

The .pdf for this bill (S. 1348) is nearly 800 pages long. I’m dying to see a poll of how many of these ‘ticked off’ people have actually read the darn thing. I’m on page 15 (just past the table of contents!). It’s boring:) Double-spaced, huge type/margins, but BORING (lots of precedent, etc.).

I’m grateful for President Bush’s leadership on this matter, and all others, great and small. He has shown remarkable strength of character in the past 6 1/2 years. We’re blessed.

Hi, Deb! Thank you so much for you links--and rant :)

Our wittle wightwing talkers, bloggers, and pundits — elitist demagogues all — are having a collective temper tantrum because President Bush dared to defend himself

I turned Rush off yesterday.

He was wringing his hands, saying the president "so casually cast off" the base.

I don't believe the president did any such thing, and thank you for posting the full quote so we could read it for ourselves. As usual, the president's words were taken out of context.

But that didn't stop Rush and the others from acting pitiful and put-upon.

"So casually cast off"??

LOL! I thought, how many times has Rush "so casually cast off" President Bush? More times than I can remember.
