Americans -- at least really stupid Americans like George Bush -- believe the natural state of the world is to have individual self-determination, human rights, the rule of law and a robust democratic economy. On this view, most of the existing world and almost all of world history is a freakish aberration.
In fact, the natural state of the world is Darfur. The freakish aberration is America and the rest of the Anglo-Saxon world.
The British Empire once spread the culture of prosperity around the globe -- Judeo-Christian values, tolerance, equality, private property and the rule of law. All recipients of the British Empire's largesse benefited, but the empire's most successful colony was the United States.

A present for his brother’s wife?
Thanks for the info!
Thank you Ann. What the hell are our politicians thinking? Telling us that this reform bill is necessary and good and wil fix the ills of illegal immigration. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY SMOKING?
...Huntington is now predicting, in his book "Who Are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity," that America cannot survive the cultural onslaught from Latin America.
American Hispanics responded to Huntington's book with a flurry of scholarly papers and academic debates to counter his thesis that Mexicans were not assimilating.
Just kidding! They called for national protests against Huntington, his publisher and Harvard University.
I am truly digusted by our so-called leadership in Washington.....
The strange thing about many of these Senators creating this disaster is they'll be dead when the real problems start kicking in for the rest of us. McCain, Kennedy, Feinstein and others are in their seventies so exactly what is motivating them personally I don't know.
“The only question is why?”
The view from mount Olympus is to look at Americans and others with compassion. Americans are especially special to our (permanent) political class.
“aren’t especially special”
You also have no sense of the existence of a middle class in New York City. The rich have hidden the evidence, transplanting all but the massively wealthy to the suburbs. Manhattan is white and getting whiter, while the boroughs are noticeably less white and more dysfunctional.
Perfect. And the US Senate is even further removed from reality than the Wall Street Journal.

McCain, Kennedy, Feinstein and others are in their seventies so exactly what is motivating them personally I don't knowMy guess as to what is motivating McCain, Kennedy, Feinstein and other Democrat senators to create this disaster is that they are liberals and are just doing what liberals do. Liberals hate America and are intolerant, totalitarian, elitist, socialists. They also want to implement their liberal Marxist agenda and want to take our right to have any say in how the country is run.
bttt
She is SERIOUS. The point is that when considering the natural state of affairs thoughout history, the United States of America is the exception not the rule. The rule is Darfur, the rule is Stalinist Russia, the rule is Mao's China, the rule is Nazi Germany, and today the rule is the theocratic Iran and the psychotic North Korea. George W Bush in his naivete thinks he can enact this abomination and America will absorb this population, greater than all of Australia and several European nations. It is
INSANITY!!!!!!
fr_freak: “One of the things that I really like about Coulter is how her writings separate the men from the boys around here. Those who don’t have the guts for a down and dirty fight, which politics is, at its heart, can’t help but cringe and wince as she steamrolls over the kinder, gentler, tone.
Mark Steyn is brilliant, though.”
We need them both—the brilliant satirist Mark Steyn, and the hilarious, dirty street fighter, Ann Coulter. The best comment I read on the difference between them was by—of course—Mark Steyn. He said after “Godless” came out and the big blow up over the 9/11 widows, and I’m paraphrasing,”I wrote an article about them in 2001, pointing out they were using their husbands’ deaths for political purposes. No one paid attention and the article was forgotten. Now Ann bludgeoned them with the fact of their hypocrisy and no one can stop talking about it.”
He said it more elegantly than that, of course. I think I got the quote from a Hugh Hewitt transcript.
” But Forrest Gump was...um...”limited”... :-) “
Not a problem if he wants to run on the Republican ticket in 2008.....
She uses loaded, emotional terms (I never saw two women enjoying their husband’s death so much) to penetrate their lack of logic. (I was going to talk about John Edwards, but I don’t want to be sent to re-education camp for using the word “fagot”.) This gets her air time on TV for both her and her opponents, blog time, lots of comments, so that the facts eventually penetrate. The 9/11 widows DID get millions of dollars. They DID use their time and money to campaign against Pres. George Bush. There is something slimy about using your husbands’ death that way.
Well said.
I was amazed that many Europeans saw us as colonialists (Vietnam), just like themselves. Many on the American left see us as stealing oil. much as they steal through taxation or by taking over organizations. You are right; American virtues are seldom appreciated. It seems that many appreciate the American paycheck, but little else.
I confess I’d like to see Coulter in the White House... with John Bolton as Sect of State.
I sure like having a CCW in FL. That’s something I didn’t have in Cali.
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.
Winston Churchill
Well said, worth repeating!
