Just as they were before they became Katrina evacuees.

That's my belief too. These were the "chronically unemployed." Katrina changed nothing for them, except for where to send the Welfare check.

By taking my money and giving it to bums, the federal government has made it my business.

And it’s yours too, unless you pay no federal income tax.

But it DOES happen, and as long as it does it is our business.

Lived in the “Big Easy” from 1975-1977. Nothing has changed.

Now, since 5,500 don’t have jobs and 100,000 remain in Houston, doesn’t that mean that 94,500 have jobs? When did 5,500 people define 100,000?

Unemployment nationwide is around 4.5%. How is a group of 100,000 being represented by 5.5% unemployment so outrageous especially when that entire group was displaced from their home city?

Whether or not they have a job has no bearing on whether or not they should receive government funds. You apparently think that it does in some very bizarre way. No tax payer support for anyone whether they have a job or not, whether they can work or not. They are none of your business. They are not your concern to care for or fret over. What the government does with your/our money is. Now do you understand. Yes I pay taxes that you only wish you could. I am sitting at the bar at the beach house pool working amid a myriad of distractions including keeping an eye on this site.

Guess they don’t have much reason to look for a job...

I know that store. I stop there many times coming home from work. And I too have seen the fully hooded “evacuees” walking around in 85 degree plus weather.

They come through my neighborhhod just aimlessly walking around checking things out. I’ll stop in my truck and say, “how are you doing, can I help you find your friends?” They don’t say much back to me but at least they know I marked them.

Whether they have a job is not your business, Nanny. Take away the payments tomorrow or today. You think their situation is your concern? So does Hillary. Her new catch phrase is “on your own” and that is supposed to be something really bad. Freedom and liberty mean on your own and she does not want that. If you are concerned about their joblessness then go find them a job. Is their situation your business or not. If it is go do something for them.

When you can continue to draw a free handout from the government - and let illegals do the work, then why work?

Cut off ALL benefits to ALL able-bodies people of working age. If Absolutely necessary, supplemental aid on a SHORT TERM basis might be acceptable, but paying people to NOT work is just wrong.

People are just lazy...period.

“Should” isn’t the issue here. We all agree that they should not receive taxpayer money.

But they do, and since it’s partly my money, it’s my problem.

“Whether they have a job is not your business, Nanny.”

Sorry, chump, you are wrong! When these lazy sots are sucking off the government teat that I pay into, it sure the hell is my business! They need to get off their collective lazy butts and get to work.

Defending lazy liberal scum isn’t what this site is about, so I am told.

Bums before Katrina, bums after Katrina. Nothing ever seems to change when you are talking about Democrats. Yeah I know, I am heartless and believe all able bodied people should work.

I’m glad I read comments this far, or else I was about to repeat EXACTLY what you just posted! lol
