No jobs for US citizens without Homeland Security approval Submitted by Canada IFP on Sat, 2007-05-26 18:00.Americas | United States | News
US citizens who apply for a job will need prior approval from Department of Homeland Security under the terms immigration bill passed by the Senate this week.
American Civil Liberties Union pointed out that the DHS's Employment Eligibility Verification System (EEVS) is error plagued and if the department makes a mistake in determining work eligibility, there will be virtually no way to challenge the error or recover lost wages due to the bills prohibitions on judicial review.
Even current employees will need to obtain eligibility approval from the DHS Within 60 days of the Immigration Reform Act of 2006 becoming law.
"EEVS would be a financial and bureaucratic nightmare for both businesses and workers," said Timothy Sparapani, ACLU Legislative Counsel. "Under this already flawed program no one would be able to work in the U.S. without DHS approval - creating a No Work List similar to the governments No Fly List. We need immigration reform, but not at this cost."
The act allocates US$400 million for the implementation of the EEVS, but the Congressional Budgeting Office estimates the system to cost in excess of a billion dollars.
I’ve been forced to prove my citizenship for every job since the passage of the last amnesty bill in the 80’s. We don’t need another law, we NEED ENFORCEMENT. Why should we believe this new bill will make things any better?
I would call the creation of a no work list that can’t even be judicially reviewed a little more that the verification of social security status. The Government has no intention of stopping illegals from crossing the boarder or from getting jobs. So the real beauty in it for them is that they get to create another database to keep track of bonified Americans.
bump
I hate the ACLU, but I’d be perfectly happy to see them come out against that bill with their hordes of lawyers and liberal activists.
Wow, what an angry, hateful post.
Fixing it: Only on U.S. citizens. Only on federal citizens. If there were State Citizens to be found, it would not apply to them. See here: LINK
Excerpt: What we really need is for all States, North AND South, to rise again, assert their sovereignty, and have their Residents go back to being State Citizens. And let the federal government, that is a City-State Democracy that inherited nothing in the way of liberty protecting institutions from anywhere, lose its pseudo-citizens (except for those that continue to reside in DC).
Though it may not be anything like 'the mark', the Democratic and Republican establishments are both pushing for a biometric national ID card, with the data stored centrally in a federal database and redundantly in the card itself on a chip. Is it just an extreme minority of folks who are wary of this sort of thing? Does it take federally mandated RFID tags to make people uneasy? Or will the majority accept that too, because it will make them feeeeeeeel safer?
Same here. I wonder when it’s time to head for the hills. That was an easier question to answer when I was single, but now that I’ve got a family to consider, it is incredibly complicated. I’m praying for wisdom. Note that in James 1:5, God grants it without any condition — an unconditional promise for wisdom!
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
That is interesting. Not sure what I make of it, but it seems to somewhat agree with what I sometimes say about the states becoming merely branch offices of the imperial federal government. It also seems to agree with my suggestion to ditch the 17th amendment.
I am resigned though, as I think these discussions are largely academic because most Americans are too stupid or too busy to understand the situation.
I guess I took this to mean EVERYONR working in the US would have to submit some form or something to the DHS.
EVERYONE... that is
As did I. Sad that that sort of thing wouldn't just seem like a preposterous invasion of privacy.
Unfortunately, they are correct on this point about the EEVS. It's one of the worst things about this disgusting amnesty bill.
You are not going to get very far in the world if you start believing the ACLU. There is no such thing as a no work list, its hyperbole.
Its the same employment verification system thats been in place for years the only change is that use of the system goes from voluntary to mandatory for employers. Without this system in place to cut off the jobs we have no chance of ever fixing this problem.
I wonder why you post such stupidity. You give people grounds for criticizing Christianity with your dopey application of the Bible to the current topic. The text says nothing that applies.
***You are clueless. People can criticise christianity all they want. It is a direct quote from the Bible, and the prophecy is astonishing in how well it is coming to pass right before our eyes.
Do yourself a favor and educate yourself on a technical term in the Bible, the “abomination of desolation”. It’s basically when the Anti-Christ will declare himself to be God on the jewish temple. That can’t happen until the temple is rebuilt, and we see indicators and news items on that almost every week. It’s like reading tomorrow’s newspaper.

Actually, I had to agree with him.... your application of scripture to this particular context did seem rather dopey.
Actually, it wasn't my application, but I still agree with it. And disagreement doesn't give someone license to post something insulting and not get called on it.
