North Korea may launch more missiles

SEOUL: North Korea may be preparing for another missile launch as it has kept in place equipment used last week to fire off a short-range missile, a South Korean daily reported on Monday.

Launch platforms and vehicles that can transport missiles, as well as the communications equipment needed for launches, have not been removed from an east-coast site used in Friday’s launch, the JoongAng Ilbo reported, quoting intelligence sources.

“We are closely monitoring the situation to see if the North will fire additional missiles, but there have been no unusual movements,” a South Korean intelligence source told the paper. Defence officials in Seoul declined to verify the report.

South Koreans protest: About 300 South Korean activists burnt a picture of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il on Monday in protest at the communist country’s missile test last week.

Protesters also torched a North Korean flag during a rally in a Seoul park. They called for the postponement of inter-Korean ministerial talks due to be held in Seoul this week until Pyongyang honours a nuclear disarmament deal.

“Down with Kim Jong-Il!” demonstrators shouted, criticising his country’s nuclear and missile programmes.

Meanwhile the United States believes a banking dispute blocking a nuclear disarmament accord will drag on and has pressed North Korea to start shutting its reactor in return for a firm US promise of a solution, a report said Monday.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said Washington had suggested to Pyongyang that the nuclear deal should be implemented first as it is taking “significant time” to settle the banking row.

The US offer, made through diplomatic channels, promises the communist North a “tangible commitment” to settling the dispute exactly as Pyongyang desires and as quickly as possible, Yonhap quoted a source as saying. agencies

Wonder when Nancy Pelosi will go cozy up to this despot? She’s visited all the terrorists, scratched Global Warming off her list this past weekend; communist dictators have to be coming up on her list soon I would think.
