About the Senate immigration bill ... I take it back; it stinks
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | May 27, 2007 | Jack Kelly

Posted on 05/29/2007 7:12:42 AM PDT by 3AngelaD

...in last week's column, I expressed cautious support for the advertised elements of the Senate immigration bill. But the advertising is false. DMN columnist Rod Dreher asked an immigration lawyer what he thought of the bill. His reply:

"This bill has no enforcement at all. It says, in effect, that no Y (guest worker) or Z (amnesty) visas will be issued until the following steps are taken. But in the meantime, provisional Y and Z visas will be issued, with exactly the same effects and benefits..."

It gets worse. "If an ICE agent apprehends aliens..the agent cannot detain them. Instead, ICE must provide them the opportunity to apply for the Z visa," noted Kris Kobach..."Instead of initiating removal proceedings, ICE will be initiating amnesty applications. This is the equivalent of turning the Drug Enforcement Agency into a needle distribution network."

The bill may make it harder to deport the 30,000 illegal immigrant gang members in the U.S. Kobach notes that all these criminals need do to obtain a Z visa is to sign a form renunciating gang affiliation... Today we can deport them if we catch them. If this bill passes, we may not be able to.

There are many other things wrong...including provisions which would give illegals more rights and privileges than aliens who enter this country lawfully and which would require taxpayers to pay the legal fees of illegals applying for Z visas...

An example of Sen. Kennedy's duplicity is the advertised shift from granting visas chiefly for family unification to a system favoring immigrants with education and skills America needs. Kennedy told the San Francisco Chronicle that for the next eight years, the bill would award 75 percent of new green cards to family members, a substantial increase from the current 60 percent...

We are being sold a bill of goods, and the politicians are looking us in the eye and lying about it.

"Sen. McCain expressed surprise to learn the measure he champions exempts illegals from paying back taxes..." I'll bet.

amnesty am-nes-ty -n 1. a general pardon for offenses against a government

The future of our country depends on our efforts to defeat this legislation. Support for amnesty indicates that there are members of the body politic who no longer answer to the will of the people, the Constitution, or even to rational thought itself. Those who will vote in support of this bill will choose to vote ANTI-AMERICAN. Keep reminding those who so willfully abandon the values and ethics of American ideals in exchange for campaign contributions: It does not matter if corporate donors line reelection coffers with one trillion dollars... it will not buy one single citizen's vote on this issue.

Keep the pressure on, because the Senate is hoping this will all just go away if they wait long enough. Write, call, email, and fax your representatives... and DO NOT STOP. If you are unable to reach your Congressional or Senate rep, try the office of El Presidente. Contact your local and state party representatives, and the Republican and Democrat National Committees. Keep building the tidal wave that we need to KILL THIS BILL!

I'm seeing more backpedaling starting now. And let's remember this monstrosity was only conceived of last week!!! (the better to ram in down our throats, you see)

Let's keep fighting, and hammering, and faxing, and calling, and let's bury this vile, anti-American treasonous attack once and for all.

And let us absolutely watch closely who is a part of this and make every effort in the coming years to electorally remove them from politics. Unless, of course, they just go on over to the Left wing and start running for office as Communists, which scum like Kyl would have done if he had an honest bone in his body.

I think it was unveiled last week, but that Kennedy and some of the others have known for years what they wanted in the bill, and the weaklings and traitors went along with him. He has played a bunch of them for suckers.

Of what I can remember (admittedly, that may not be all that much-but I am over 60 and not too addled), this is absolutely the worst case ever of politicians assuming that their constituents were (are) a bunch of idiots.

Either that, or many of the politicians believe their need for campaign cash requires them to do whatever the “we-gotta-have-cheap-labor,” business lobby demands. The effects of business owners (not all, but many) on the Republican Party may be almost as bad as the effects of the nutroots on the Democratic Party.

Write and call your Senators and your congressman. A large part of our grandchildren’s future is at stake here.

Yes, I made a presentation error, in fact the snakes have been cooking this up for months, and as you point out Evil Kennedy has wanted this for years, as have most all the politicians.

I meant to say that the trap was sprung just last week. And can you believe garbage bag Reid, Senate Majority leader, even tried to have it all voted on and pushed through in just a few days? He stated before Memorial Day! I can't believe they sprung the crappy trap on us like that.

Good. Now I wish Michael Medved would also stop shilling for the thing. The gov't get's 24 hrs to perfrom a quick background check, then you're in like Flynt on "probational status". What happens when all these "benchmarks" don't get funded-- does anyone beyond thrid grade actually believe all these "probationaries" will suddnely go bacl to illegal status?

There is no enforcement, just virtual amnesty from Day 1. It's worse than the status quo. Why is that so hard to understand?

"This bill has no enforcement at all.

The voters do not trust the politicians and bureaucrats, period. End of story.

Kennedy's 1965 immigration bill and Simpson-Mazzoli in 1986 were just as bad. We've already had the wool pulled over our eyes twice before. Everything Kennedy says about the current bill should be turned on its head in order to be understood as reality. Here's what the lying POS Kennedy said in 1965 about that monstrosity, which effectively blocked Western Europeans from immigrating here:

"First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same…. Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset…. Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia….

"In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think..." --Teddy Kennedy, 1965 on the floor of the US Senate

Most just came here to work, and they work hard at jobs the native born are (mostly) unwilling to do at prevailing wages.

That's the crux of the matter. U.S. citizens will not do the work for prevailing Mexican wages.

I wonder how many of the lawyers, doctors, etc. that are our elected officials would want to see their compensation based on prevailing wages in Mexico?

This bill is useless. All they need to do is enforce the laws we have now.

Also, of the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli Bill, Ted Kennedy said "We will secure the borders henceforth, we will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this."

In a news conference on Thursday, May 17, Ted Kennedy says "The agreement we just reached is the best possible chance to secure our borders."

So, applying my Kennedy translation tool, he is really sayding, "The agreement we just reached is the WORST possible WAY to secure our borders."

How does one perform a background check on an illegal alien anyway? I mean, where do you even begin? And all in 24 hours? What a joke.

That's the crux of the matter. U.S. citizens will not do the work for prevailing Mexican wages.

Neither do the Mexicans who come here. They work for low cash wages and high welfare benefits, which are unavailable to US citizens who do not or can not act with the anonymity available to illegals.

But we’re tired of being lied to about immigration by politicians in Washington. This may be why only 26 percent of respondents in a Rasmussen poll said they supported this bill,

It seems no senators have read this bill but many in the American public have.

"Sen. McCain expressed surprise to learn the measure he champions exempts illegals from paying back taxes..." I'll bet.<<

McCain sponsored an amendment (1190) that would make them pay back taxes (or promise the IRS that they would pay), but only if and when they got a green card. So there is another swindle. There may be more loopholes that I am not aware of.

This bill is a fraud in so many ways that, if it passes, books will be written about it.

There’s no way on earth that this bill can be fixed by fiddling with it, because as this reporter now understands, or admits, none of these provisions will be enforceable.

If they can’t and won’t enforce the laws now, it would be the height of stupidity to think that the will enforce the laws after this is past, when they have as many as 120 million to deal with.

(Yes, the numbers being thrown around are much lower than that, but they aren’t counting all the chain migrants or the anchor babies or the new illegals who will be part of the package.)
