Thousands of people gathered at the Angel de la Independencia to witness the Miss Universe National Costume competition, which was held outdoors and was open to the general public. The 77 contestants paraded in alphabetical order for around 45 minutes. Some contestants wore enormous costumes, while others wore the traditional attire of their countries. The most applauded contestant was Mexico (Rosa Maria Ojeda), followed by Spain (Natalia Zabala). Miss USA Rachel Smith, (on the left) who wore a very creative female Elvis Presley costume, was booed by the audience, due to the unstable political relations between Mexico and the United States. On the right photo is our very own Anna Theresa Licaros wearing a very elegant spanish-inspired costume. Watch this video from a Mexican website covering the National Costume competition where Miss USA was booed by the public. According to the clip, crowd favorites are Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Philippines and Japan

In my visits to Mexico (both to tourist areas and far away from tourist areas) I've found Mexicans to be pretty friendly towards Americans. There are always a few who are less friendly, but in general I always felt welcome, especially in rural areas.

I've however, never spent much time in a large Mexican city. I suspect that the hate filled liberals are more concentrated in the cities there like they are here.

“You really don’t think it was funny? Bet you don’t like the 3 Stooges either.”

I did when I was 8. I’d say that would be about the age children would learn that other people’s misfortunes are not funny. Shame you never learned that.

You should change your name to DboyA.

They are friendly as long as you bring “more American Dollars”.

If a girl is so unused to making hip-thrusting movements that she slips and falls down when trying to make them, that in itself demonstrates that she’s unused to being deliberately sexy and speaks well for her virtue.

I do like the Stooges. They, unlike Rachel Smith, were professional comedians trying to get laughs. It’s a little different to laugh at and direct crude language toward a young girl who has invested a great deal of time, energy, and money and is representing her country. You are then joining the vile, crude hyenas from Mexico who laughed at her and booed her.

They are working to OWN this land and reclaim it back into Mexico

Yep. That's why I think we should march in there and take them over now. Make Mexico the 51st state.

As a nation in the process of being conquered we might as well get used to the conquerors expression of scorn.

Number 1, of course.

Number 2 will never happen unless the unwashed masses exercize their brains and employ GRIP (Get Rid of Incumbent
Politicians)who are deaf to our national security and view themselves as COngressmen of the World instead of America.

You are a fool.

They weren’t booing HER - they were booing YOU and the rest of America. Unless, of course, you are an illegal invader yourself.

And these girls are young ladies - all of them - not hookers. You are probably a better assessors of hookers than young ladies anyway,DManA.

No way. I'd only accept Mexico...without the Mexicans.

We should have OWNED Mexico 100 years ago.

Be careful what you wish for. We could own Mexico. We could own Iraq. I could own a half-dozen rabid weasels and keep them in my pants. None of these strikes me as a good idea.
