Russia is the real man behind the scenes. They are coordinating this.

India held meetings on this very idea with China, Russia, Serbia, Cuba, Iraq (while Saddam was still in power), and Libya.

It was a longtime ally of the old Soviet Union.

It votes against the US at the UN more often than any country except Cuba.

So given this long record of hostility to the United States, its growing coziness with China is not surprising at all. Anti-Americanism trumps all else.

On second thought, maybe it’s OK. Sounds like they’re just trying to prevent war with each other.

The story doesn’t seem to bear out the headline.

JOINING THE CONGRESSIONAL CAUCUS ON INDIA AND INDIAN AFFAIRS — (Extensions of Remarks - May 01, 2007)

[Page: E905] GPO’s PDF
-—SPEECH OF
HON. KEITH ELLISON
OF MINNESOTA
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
TUESDAY, MAY 1, 2007
Mr. ELLISON. Madam Speaker, Indian Americans have contributed greatly to the vibrancy, creative thought, and diversity of our Nation. The large and growing population of Indian Americans in Minnesota has enriched our neighborhoods and communities and continues to play an important role in improving the lives of all Americans. It is with these advances in mind that we celebrate the growth of relations between the United States and India and look forward to promoting a closer friendship amongst our two countries.
I’m proud to join the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Affairs and look forward to working with my fellow Members of Congress through the promotion of our shared values and concerns. I stand with India and Indian Americans in promoting peace, prosperity, and happiness for all the world’s people.

Note that Rep. Ellison is the America-hating Nation of Islam Congresscritter who took his oath on a Koran. He has been outspokenly anti-American in his public utterances.

No, I don’t think so. This goes back to at least 2000:

http://nucnews.net/nucnews/2000nn/0005nn/000529nn.htm

“India introduced nuclear weapons into the subcontinent last year. Also last year, according to the Times of India, India played host to a meeting with the ambassadors of Fidel Castro’s Cuba, Communist China, Serbia, Libya, Iraq and Russia to discuss setting up a security alliance “to stop the U.S.” George Fernandes, Indian defense minister, described the United States as ‘vulgarly arrogant.’”

They’e been working together for a while now. It’s aimed at us.

I think its the fault of the communist leaders who are sharing the power at the centre. They must’ve applied for some pressure tactics on the pro-US centrist Prime minister to pursue these exercises. The ruling Congress party heavily relies on the communist support to stay in power afterall.

I think George Fernandez’, who is incidentally the first christian to become a defense minister, anger at US originates from the fact that he was strip searched at a US port of entry while he was about to board a flight back to India.

That was an extremely wrong move on part of “some” US authorities since they obviously disregarded diplomatic protocol. Cant blame the man for feeling a wee bit humiliated. And if you know GF that well, he is very well known to be a very honest and upright person who never minces his words.

The kind of person who tends to support India? That is probably one of the most asinine statements ever made. You cherry pick one person (who conveniently happens to be a member of the NOI), post some words he said on India and Indian-Americans (words that are in fact TRUE since Indian-Americans have, in general, been very good citizens of the US; and moreover additionall true because George Bush is striving to enhance US-Indo ties), and then say that such a person (a member of the NOI/anti-American etc etc etc) is a prime example of the type of person who 'tends to support India.'

That is the most convoluted mess I have ever read! Totally lacking in terms of logical coherence.

Take Australia as an example: the country is considered to be one of our staunchest allies, and has been so all the way back to the World Wars. Now, imagine if i made a statement based on an INDONESIAN'S thoughts on Aussies. An Indonesia who, say, happens to belong to some kooky Islamic radical organization. And an Indonesian who just happens to think Australia is a nice place. And THEN I say that the Indonesian is an example of 'the kind of person who tends to support Australia.'

Sheer lunacy!

The fact remains that India is primed to be one of the most important allies of the United States of America going forward (especially in the face of a burgeoning China as we progress through the 21st Century), particularly when it comes to creating a buffer effect against growing Chinese influence in the region. This is the main reason why the US Government is reaching out towards India like there is no tomorrow. We are basically trying to give them everything but the kitchen sink (and maybe that is also part of the package) ....and unlike Pakistan India is able to buy it instead of taking it courtesy of American tax payers.

BTW ....if I had the time I could dredge the 'net for statements by totally disconnected people on all sorts of things. I am sure i could find a Ku Klux Klan member who thinks Ghana is a 'good' African nation (and try to use that as an example of the Klan turning a new leaf when it comes to race relations), an Al Queda jehadi who apparently was amazed at the ease that he could get fast food in Berlin (and use that as a way of showing that Osama is being more positive when it comes to the West due to the hard work of Taco Hell - I mean Taco Bell - employees when it comes to good fast-food service). Goodness, I can use Cindy Sheehan to show how all Irish are bl@@dy 'attention whores' (all I need to say is that Cindy is caucasian, thus she must have stemmed from Europe, meaning that there is a chance she is from Ireland originally ...even though she probably has no ancestor who hails from there ....and simply say that that means she is representative of the Irish. After all, you did say that some Nation of Islam kook is representative of the type of people who support India).

Just a few hours ago I saw a report of some Palestine terrorist who was caught by his own having sex in a car .....using your disconnected logic I guess that could mean he was advocating buying the shock absorbers of whatever car he was in when he was doing The Do.

Saying that a NOI person is, 'just for perspective,' the type of person who tends to support India is just plain dumb.

India is a democracy, right?; the other two nations aren't.

I think this may be a way for India to exert some muscle in the region...show she's a player. Not that anyone doubted India's strengths.

Please don't be fooled by nonsense emanating from this New Jersey blog going by the name 'IndiaDaily' and/or this faux-Freeper TBP.

Exercises like this are just namesake.

Like this one:

U.S., China Navies Join Forces on Rescue Exercise

Army takes stock as Chinese take plots in Arunachal Pradesh

http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1098562

Top brass meets in Assam, reviews activities along unmarked border

NEW DELHI: In the wake of reports published in DNA on China making fresh inroads into Arunachal Pradesh, top army commanders met in Assam on Tuesday to appraise the activities along India’s unmarked border and review counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast.

Lt Gen KS Jamwal, who heads the Kolkata-based Eastern Command, was briefed by the general officer commanding of the 4 Corps, Lt Gen RK Chhabra. The latter is heading the military offensive against the United Liberation Front of Asom in Arunachal and Assam. The GOC-in-C was also briefed about the activities along the Line of Actual Control, before his visit there.

Army sources told DNA that there were eight sectors of dispute along the India-China border in Arunachal and every summer the Chinese make a dozen or so intrusions in these parts. Though the army visits these places to stake India’s claim, the Chinese end up controlling the areas because “they are more aggressive”. Last year, the Intelligence Bureau reported that China had moved one of its posts further inside, but an examination by RAW found they had merely built a structure.

The Centre and the Arunachal government have been denying suggestions that the Chinese are making further inroads. Instead, the focus seems to be on building roads in remote border areas to remove the communication blocks for the Indian Army.

Intelligence officers said China had built an elaborate road network along the border. This, gave China a distinct advantage over India, they said.

The India Daily article is impossibly stupid, unfounded, and “India Daily” is a worthless source that makes up stories. Also, “India Daily” seems to be just a website in New Jersey run by God-knows-who.

I still cannot understand why, at the same time known domestic media is continuously bashed here, anything from a “foreign” media source people haven’t heard of is accepted as truth.

This is ALSO from “India Daily.”

“We are part of a very advanced Type IV extraterrestrial civilization. They created the universe and the breeding grounds for recycling life like earth all over the Hyperspace to become part of the immortal civilization in the chilled universe.”

Why believe China and India are forming a NATO-type alliance (which is nonsense) if you’re not going to believe we are part of an advanced Type IV extraterrestrial civilization in a chilled universe?

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was formed by Western nations. It was designed as a joint defense pact. If anyone attack any member of the pact all would come to the attacked nation’s aid.

Russia, China and India would make a formidable combination. Watch the Muslim nation’s join in.

China and India have too much bad blood between them to even dream of such a thing. Maybe if Taiwan re-takes China and establishes a democratic republic from Beijing, and gets the Communists out of Tibet. Then, maybe. Else, no.

A good chunk of the posts on this thread show an APPALLING lack of knowledge on the issue of Sino-Indo relations.China holdsover 40,000 sq.kms of Indian territory-some captured in 1962,with the rest gifted by Pakistan in 1963.China is Pakistan’s strongest ally & most of Islamabad’s conventional & nuclear weaponry is from Beijing. Not to mention China encouraging insurgencies in India’s north east & expanding it’s influence in Myannmar & Bangladesh.

In other words, there is little or no trust between the 2 sides. These exercises are little more than ceremonial confidence building measures.China even does that with the US & Australia.Nothing else to watch out for.
