NEW DOCUMENTARY TO EXPLORE JOSEPH SMITH, MITT ROMNEY & THE MORMON QUEST FOR THE WHITE HOUSE
Los Angeles, CA -- May 14, 2007--A Mormon President, the first documentary film to explore the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith's campaign for the US Presidency and its implications for the candidacy of another Mormon, Mitt Romney, has begun production and is slated for a fall 2007 release.
Produced and directed by filmmaker Adam Christing, the film will be released in the heat of a presidential campaign that includes Romney and is part of a movie-making trend of examining the history of the Mormon religion, which includes the forthcoming September Dawn, the story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857, and PBS's The Mormons.
Christing, who grew up in the Reorganized Latter Day Saint Church and is a member of the Mormon History Association, says he is not producing a "hit" piece or a "puff" piece about the Mormon Prophet. "This film may be upsetting to "anti-Mormons" because it shows what a generous man and visionary leader Joseph Smith was," he noted. "It may shock some Mormons because it documents the untold story of Smith's secret marriages to more than 30 women and his campaign for President which led directly to his murder in 1844."
Christing who studied theology at Biola University in Los Angeles says his movies tend to focus on the intersection of faith and power. His most recent film Change Your Life! is a mockumentary about the wacky world of multi-level marketing, and is now in post production.
Romney's candidacy has heightened interest in issues related to Mormons and politics and created what Christing calls a "focus moment." "Focus moments are when events and ideas connect to create interest in a particular topic that may have been previously neglected," commented Christing. "We experienced similar moments about Catholicism and Judaism when Kennedy and Lieberman ran for office. Because of Romney we are now in a focus moment about Mormonism. People are becoming very interested in the history of the Mormon church and its connection to the political culture of our nation."
Christing promises to deliver a film that will be both educational and entertaining:
"This is a serious piece, but it will be very engaging," he noted. "I've been fascinated by Joseph Smith's story ever since I was a kid. Here's a man who started a religion, built a city bigger than Chicago in its day, became a Master Mason, and ran for President. He packed more adventure into 3 years than most people experience in a lifetime."

Jeff, is he also your LORD?
Do you believe that Jesus is the MOST HIGH? We do:
"...Jehovah he is Elohim; there is none else beside him." -
Deuteronomy 4:35"Know that Jehovah he is Elohim; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture."
Psalm 100:3
Do you believe that Jesus is Elohim?
Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have sworn to Jehovah God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth..."
Genesis 14:22"I will give thanks to Jehovah according to His righteousness And will sing praise to the name of Jehovah Most High."
Psalm 7:17
Jeff, do you ever pray directly TO Jesus? We do.
And they went on stoning Stephen as he called upon the Lord and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" And falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!" And having said this, he fell asleep."
Acts 7:54-60"...pray to Jehovah..."
Jeremiah 29:7"Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And I will be found by you, declares Jehovah..."
Jeremiah 29:11"What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way Jehovah our God is near us whenever we pray to Him?"
Deutronomy 4:7
Jeff, do you ever come to Jesus and pray to Him, your personal Savior?
"You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life."
John 5:40
Cordially,
I believe you are not qualified to know if Mormons are a christian religion or not. Since your an athiest, im not surprised at your ignorance on this matter.I stated very clearly that I was basing my OPINION not in religious terms but in terms of a given group's effect on society.
I am both surprised and saddened at your utter ignorance in regard to reading the English language.
PS: Your punctuation, capitalization and spelling suck, too.
Do you believe that God was once a man on a different planet and that He spiritually evolved or was elevated to the state of being God?
As Christ taught, I pray to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.
All of the attempts to nay-say or lessen those essential facts, all attacks on whatever secondary doctrine or interpretations are meaningless compared to that.
In my own life Jesus Christ knows my heart, and, thank God, He will be the one to judge it.
If you're faith in Christ is sincere, my advise is simply to then rejoice in others who have found Him, profess Him sincerely (as I have just done), and accepted Him into their lives and look to Him for salvation.
God bless you each.
Try not to focus questions at individuals and focus instead upon the heresies of Mormonism. Focusing upon individuals is precisely wha t the DNC wants because it will foment distrust and fighting amongst conservatives, leading to a complete takeover by the godless DNC. Thanks
I again state that your OPINION is NOT based on facts. If, in your opinion, my punctuation, capitalization and spelling suck you have a grammar deficit - not me.
Re-read my sincere witness of Christ Jesus on this thread. Christ himself will judge between me and thee, and I am grateful that He is that judge.
I profess him, I am LDS, I have been taught since my youth by my church to profess Christ. Your opinion and judgement of me as to whether I am or am not Christian is meaningless because it is for Christ to judge those who profess Him, not you or anyone else.
It is clear to me that on the vast majority of the issues of the day, including to Whom we look for salvation, we are in absolute agreement. We shoud be working together. I am happy to do so, but will not back away from my sincere professions of my Christianity or my my Savior, whom I love, and to whom I look for salvation.
God bless you in your own walk in His light.
Peace be with you, Jeff.
Well I happen to be an atheist and I am much more qualified than you caffe to know if Mormons are Christians, they are. Frankly I am surprised at the ignorance that most 'Christians' have about their own beliefs, but I am not surprised when 'Christians' tell other people what they believe.
We agree...but it is critical to know, that just as with the other denominations that you listed and more...it is the basic teachings of the church about Christ coupled with a sincere search by the individual that is producing those Christians...and that is something for us all to rejoice in.
the foundations of Mormonism are not Christian Orthodoxy or even close.
Perhpas not orthydoxy, I will agree with that. But that does not mean they were not Christian.
In the end...it is the faith of the individual in Christ Jesus that counts, and their sincere efforts to emulate Him and to walk in His road...to follow Him and keep His commandments as best they can (as He said, "if ye love me, keep my commandments").
...and by any measure, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is producing good fruit in that regard.
When all is said and done, I wish His peace, that passeth all understanding to you as well. We have a lot of work to do in today's political, social, and moral setting, as I said, where we are absolute allies in addition to our professions of Christ (and in all reality, because of it).
Let me see if I have it right. You are saying that doing evil in this life is the same as doing good in the spirit realm (opposites)? I once knew a Born Again Minister who lived his life that way, he was one nasty SOB. Every day I thank God that I am an Atheist ^_^
Hey! What about us Atheists for Mitt, unless Fred or a better candidate comes along?
I'm with you on the Fred bandwagon..I notice "MJMgroup" didn't stick around after making his one post.
Yeah, kind of like the anti Mormon posters who run away when I challenge them ^_^ I do hope we can muster up a good solid conservative who isn't afraid to fight, but finding politicians with a back bone seems to be hard for both sides.
I read a few books a while back.
I heard about the silly upstate New York gold plates, and the Independence (Nauvoo) Missouri death of Joseph Smith.
I ain’t no Mormon, but I know a bit about their history.
You are barking up the wrong tree here, just so you know.
It looks like the Repubs have thrown in the towel completely..to the dems and to the illegals, and I'm MOST unhappy with our prez for this immigration billfarce. ;( There's a big thread running right now that has a whole bunch of angry FReepers on it over his remarks.
Maybe we should focus on your church for a while?
Ya know that whole beam in the eye thing?
I would say the current state of the Episcopal church? I believe this shows where it's foundation came from. That doesn't sound very nice does it?
That's the way you sound when you say these things about my Church. /shrug
I was raised a southern baptist and became a Latter-day Saint as an adult. There is a universe of difference and I could never go back. Never.
The other churches have nothing to teach me and they don't teach the Bible. Take your pick...they don't teach the Bible.
Modern Christianity teaches there is one heaven. Paul gave us an insight into the eternities in 2 Cor 12:2. ...such an one caught up to the third heaven. Paul explained it in 1 Cor 15:40
Paul says there is three, modern churches teach there is one. You can't explain it away, you can't get around it. Paul says there are three and he explains them.
Paul must not have been a "christian". /shrug
I am one of them too, and I have a Repuke Congress critter who plans on voting for it (Cannon) and I think Senator Bennett already did. I can guarantee that they will not be getting a couple of hundred votes that they got last time, even if we have to vote democratic. I would rather support an open enemy over a back stabber.
I have Domenici, who is a co-sponsor, and Bingaman who is a dem...I always thought Domenici was a good guy, but I’ve given up on him....note my tag line! I won’t vote for Pete and he’s up again in ‘08.
Why would you settle upon a religion which is founded by a man who tried to change the Bible's Old Testament text in order to write himself into the text? Ever read Joe Smith's 'translation' of Genesis chapter 50? No? Happy you in your ignorance.
