I’m only in my early 30s. Was it this bad with these treasonous clowns during Vietnam? I can’t imagine what it must have been like with no internet and the a-hole media in complete control of all news.

Yes, but we kept on doing what our military does best. We did the best we could fighting the enemy; at home and in Vietnam.

.............and we came back (most of us), settled down, raised a family, worked our butts off to get ahead, respected our country, and are now watching our grandchildren grow up.

The press came to the realization that they could ensure Americas defeat about 1970, they proceeded to do so, unmolested as the Johnson/Nixon Administrations did not have any means to fight back, although Nixon certainly wanted to and called a spade a spade if you listen to WH tapes from the era.

This POTUS has way more opportunity to counter but chooses not to fight the propaganda war at home while expecting soldiers to die on the battlefield.

Bad deal for the soldiers.

IMHO, it was worse only because there was no, and I mean no, voice for the right side (think Rush, Free Republic, etc.)

They were absolutely giddy then. They are more cautious, yet determined now.

Yes, it was that bad. I didn't pay close attention at the time, since I was only 14 at the time of the Tet Offensive, in 1968, but I do remember the nightly body count on the news when my folks were watching. In my reading since then, I've been able to see that the leading journalists of the time were complicit in turning the country against the war.

Walter Cronkite, especially, did the heavy lifting for the North Vietnamese when he intoned every night about how poorly we were doing against the wrath of the NVA during the offensive launched during Tet, the Vietnamese New Year in 1968. In truth, the NVA was almost completely crushed by the superior US forces, but no one at home ever heard that. It was only after the war, that we learned that from some of the North Vietnamese officers who led the offensive. They talked about how, because of the media, people began to pressure the US into negotiating an end to the war. Because of the length of the negotations, the North Vietnamese were able to re-supply and gain strength against the forces of the South Vietnamese who were left in the lurch as we began to draw down our forces from 1973-1975.

Because of the relentless pressure from first the media, then the Democrats who had STARTED the war, then turned full force against it as soon as Nixon won the White House, the American people began to lose faith in and patience with the military. The Democrats began to work against Nixon who was trying to broker a peace deal with the North Vietnamese, going so far as to send members of Congress to Paris to negotiate behind the President's back. Teddy Kennedy was one of these, and took with him the young John Kerry, fresh from Vietnam, and spokesman of the burgeoning 'Peace' movement. Now, does any of this sound familiar? The media is trying to re-live their glory days of the Vietnam War, and the Democrats are still up to their old tricks. The biggest difference is that they are not getting away with it so easily this time. They are being challenged by folks on the internet, and folks who are in contact with their family members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, who know the truth of what's happening.

I believe it was worse during the 60’s-70’s considering we had no internet to counter or dismiss left-wing B.S. The players are still the same. Only the messenger has changed.
