Top Ten for May 27, 2007
No analysis this week, sorry. It's 1:30 AM and I'm climbing into bed for an hour and a half before getting up to drive from Memphis to Orlando for the Microsoft TechEd conference. Limited connectivity for the next week or so. Fare well, all. Here's the top 10.

- #312; "Listening to Jeff Sessions... a change in tone coming from him over how long we stay in Iraq. He even used the term, 'I believe the President is coming around . . . ' ... President Bush's wrong stance on immigration hurts him and the GOP terribly because it is so unpopular with the American People and is especially infuriating his own base of support. One expects this sort of calumny from Democrats, but not from your own side. IMHO, this anger will inevitably bleed over and undercut support from his base concerning the Iraq question. ... People who are so infuriated with his (and those of other key GOPers) immigration stance are more apt to throw up their collective hands and say "to hell with you and supporting anything you stand for". It's irrational and self-defeating, I know, but perhaps Sessions is signaling his own disgust with personal softening of support of Bush on this other issue? ... You can't betray the people who like and support you strongly and expect good things to result from it. In a large sense, the two issues are tied together with National security and preserving America. Purposely destroying America's borders and culture makes no sense to people who care about them when you are trying to protect Iraq's at the same time. ... It's schizophrenic."

No threat? ... al-Qaeda in Pakistan? ... al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia? Syria? Indonesia? Kashmir? India? The Philipines? Southern Thailand? Algeria? Sudan? Somalia? Nigeria? Bosnia? Kosovo? ... You guessed it.... No threat. ... Oh, and forget you heard that al-Qaeda got its start during Bill Richardson's term in the Clinton administration. That too was 'No Threat'." (note: reply to Bahbah's post #27)
- #83; "Well, considering the choices of the last few democrat Pres candidates Richardson would be in good company. Consider algore. He is brilliant in only his own mind. In fact, Richardson kind of reminds me of algore. ... I think dem Pres candidates like stupid VPs so they dont challenge them once in office. - #114; "Yes, Rod, I keep thinking back to last September when the entire DBM turned its focus on Rep Foley and his so-called page scandal, that was only and completely whipped up to discourage Republicans. After all the constant hype over a couple of months, sure enough we saw Congressional Republican support fade like algore's deoderant. ... As for Foley, has the DBM done even one story on him after Election Day, 2006? ... Mission Accomplished!!!" (note: reply to rodguy911's post #62)

- #24; "Timmy reading from Richardsons book where he said 18 months ago that we cant just pull out and now he says out this year with no residual forces. ... Its because there are no WMD and the Administration has been incompetent and deceitful. ... This is really a horrible appearance by Richadson. He sounds like a fool spouting talking points and pandering to the MoveOn wing."
- #26; "Richardson wants to focus on the status of women around the world and a whole laundry list of items that we should be paying attention to including, of course, Darfur."
- #27; "I cannot convey to you how stupid Richardson sounds. ... Diplomacy, talking to Iran and Syria, an all muslim peacekeeping force...This is all delivered in the most earnest of tones. ... The true threat, per Richardson, is al-Qaeda in Afganistan. ... He is making no sense. None of this is stringing together."
- #29; "The grifters from Arkansas want $1.16 million a year from the taxpayers for Bills expenses." (article link)
- #34; "Oh, and Richardson was wrong to support the war and he apologizes for it. ... This is the most bizarre MTP I have ever seen. Timmy is all over this story about an angry mom of a fallen Marine who felt used by Richardson. Will you apologize...are you sorry...will you stop using their name... Just strange. ... Boy oh boy, Bill and Hill must have ordered Tim to take out after Richardson this morning. Hes pulling up his flip flops."
- #39; "Richardson says we need to talk to Mexico to help solve the immigration problems. He doesnt like the fence, doesnt like immigration based on merit, just families, doesnt like the guest worker problem. ... I have to say that no one with any intellect who listens to Richardson this morning would ever vote for him for anything, much less President."
- #40; "Richardson: 'Im an insurgent candidate.' LOL ... Youre an idiot candidate. I think this guy got his jobs because he can speak very earnestly (and hes crooked)."
- #61; "... Well, if you watch (MTP), and you realize that Richardson has held very powerful and responsible positions in the government, and managed to get himself elected governor, you will have a sense of despair for this country. ... - #65; "Now Timmy is bringing up the Kansas City As and Richardson, for about the 50th time this morning, admits he made a mistake. ... - #75; "Huckabee just might pick up some support with his support for the Fair Tax. ... He sounds a million times more intelligent than Richardson. ... - #42; "I am sure that Russert will not ask Richardson why he toured the USS Pueblo last month while visiting North Korea. The USS Pueblo is still carried as a commissioned US Navy vessel on active duty. ... I am appalled that Governor Richardson and Secretary Principi would allow themselves to used for propaganda purposes by the North Koreans, who illegally hold the USS Pueblo. Moreover, their presence on the ship was humiliating for the United States of America and makes a mockery of the sacrifice of the crew who were held for 11 months. One member of the crew was killed during the attack on the ship. ... Richardson claims to be an experienced diplomat. This episode demonstrates how incompetent he really is."
- #522; "The Bureau of the Census projects a population of 364 million by 2030 and 420 million by 2050. We will add 63 million in the next 23 years or the equivalent of the current population of the UK. Three quarters of the growth is attributed to immigration, legal and illegal. We take in 1.1 legal immigrants a year, i.e., we legalize the status of that many immigrants, some of whom are already in the country and change status. This number has been steadily increasing due to chain migration. Another 500,000 enter illegally each year."

- #62; "Excellent post. ... I think we have to realize that control of the agenda in the media is not important, it can be everything! ... For example, when the msm constantly ignores the fact the illegals crossing the Mexicon border are involved in killing far more Americans than will ever die in Iraq we should realize who has control of the agenda and do our best to counter it as we often do. ... We have to constantly expose their half truths, omissions and the rest for what it is, msm/dnc control of the agenda." (note: reply to Bernard's post #57)
- #67; "Brilliant link here, we ignore the threat from China at our own demise. ... Several weeks ago when MNJ pointed out that our military has gone from 14 million strong pre clinton to 1.4 million ready to fight, the first thought that came to mind was china and it's billion plus population. Capitulation is not an option for most of us." (note: reply to StoneWall Brigade's post #63)
- #109; "Exactly! ... When will US citizens and gov. wake up to the fact that we are allowing broke, illiterate, welfare seeking individuals(which the world is full of and we can not take them all) who bankrupt social systems, hospitals strain police, fire etc.,destroy communities, to live here instead of those that could truly help the country. We have no control of our immigration and we break US law by allowing it! ... Sooner or later we have to realize that most of the world is full of billions of economic refugees that would give anything to come to the US. If we try and bring them all here we can easily destroy the country, then we help no one. ... The benevolent thing to do is to try and help each country seek it's own form of capitalism when they ask our help. ... Beyond that we help no one. ... The far East and Europe are full of great minds that would give anything to come here yet we allow would be welfare gamesters to walk across an unsecured border instead. My question is.... why?" 2nd Place MNJohnnie - important analysis and thought provoking questions, an excellent example of what makes this thread so valuable
- #198; "I would simply say this to anyone who wants to debate Gulf War 1. ... Do you REALLY think that we could have allowed 2/3rds of the world's know reserves of Oil to be controlled by a guy who had started two regional wars, used WMDS against his own people and the Iranians, bragged about being a state sponsor of terrorism and took both Hitler and Stalin as his role models? ... You can argue whether or not the world's economy should be held hostage by Middle Eastern Oil but you cannot argue that it is NOT held hostage by the free flow of Oil. Like it or not the free flow of Oil IS a US National Security issue."
- #214; "Please pass this on to your brother. ... Why Iraq ... One of the really infuriating things in modern politics is the level of disinformation, misinformation, demagoguery and out right lying going on about the mission in Iraq. Democrats have spent the last 3+ years lying about Iraq out of a political calculation. The assumption is that the natural isolationist mindset of the average American voter, linked to the inherent Anti Americanism (what is misnamed the Anti War movement) of the more feverish Democrat activists (especially those running the USs National News media) would restore them to national political dominance. The truth is the Democrat Party Leadership has simply lacked the courage to speak truth to whiners. The truth is that even if Al Gore won the 2000 election and 09-11 still happened we would be doing the EXACT same things in Iraq we are doing now. ... <snip> ... 'If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.' ... Winston Churchill" (note: excellent post, read the whole thing)
- #239; "Umm NO that is the the case of the US Junk Media putting their own wishful thinking on this story. Reducing US forces down to 100,000 in 2008 doesnt come any where NEAR a 'surrender' on the Presidents part. ... I suspect there are two things at work behind this. 1 Military, the other political. ... On the Military front, there is this ... 14,000 increase in Iraqi Army since beginning of May ... Bush calls next few months critical for strategy in Iraq ... Iraqi Security Forces"
- #309; "You know this is the really stupid argument coming out of the DC Noise machine these days. This argument that Iraq was 'stable' under Saddam and 'Bush screwed it up'. ... Can you imagine what an utter strategic nightmare we would be facing if we still had Saddams Iraq to try and cope with while Iran was rattling the nuclear saber? ... To believe this notion being spun by the DC Political Media Noise Machine that Saddams Iraq was 'stable' and everything would of just been just hunky dory if we just had not invaded Iraq in 2003 requires one to ignore all factual reality. ... Saddam had provoked two regional war, had directly attacked a third nation (Israel during the Gulf War) used WMDS against both the Iranians and his own people, was an open sponsor of Islamic terrorist groups, was under UN Economic Sanctions that required an open ended US/British Military commitment to 'contain' him. ... Iraq NOW is FAR more stable then it was under Saddam, the problems that are so hyped and exaggerated by the 'News' media are IN Iraq were Saddams Iraq was a regional threat."
- #487; "I am going to try this idea out on you in the hopes of getting some creative juices flowing. ... Seems to me the basic problem the Right has is it doesnt recognize the fundamental irrationality of the Political Left. ... I will give you just one example. ... Right after 09-11 the Left was running around telling us we had to understand why they hate us. According to the Left they hate us because we support repressive regimes in the region. ... So we went to Iraq and removed the most brutal repressive regime in the region and the Left immediately started howling 'We are creating terrorists being in Iraq' ... This is the basic PR problem the current crop of Republicans have. They sit down with the people like Tim Russert et al, who believe this sort of screaming insanity, and try to REASON with them. So people like Senator Sessions today try to find some rational common base for discussion with people whos world view is totally irrational and get their PR butts handed to them. ... Until the Right puts forward tough no nonsense spokespeople who will take head on the basic irrational of the context the Left continually trys to put these debates into, they are going to keep getting their PR butts kicked."
1st Place Txsleuth - some of the best posts I've seen for some time, conveying great analysis and emotion without rancor. Well done.
- #101; "aw jeeez how brain dead is that??? ... Bill Richardson just called himself an 'insurgent candidate' .... Does he not realize what 'insurgent' means to Americans?? Especially American military families?? ... I do notice that Fat Timmy NEVER interrupts him....grrrr"
- #108; "Oooops, Timmy reluctantly named off a bunch of categories that New Mexico is the BOTTOM state of!! LOL ... But, even Richardson sort of looked guilty (for a second)...first sentence out of his mouth. ... I became Governor after 8 years of a Republican President that didnt fund education!!! barf ... Timmy said the statistics are 'troubling'...huh? How about calling HIM incompetent Timmy...like you call Pres. Bush every day of the week???"
- #141; "Oh, Babhbah....our Sen. Sessions just played right into Bobs hands and Levins. ... Levin is doing a victory lap around the studio because Sessions said we can 'no longer be an occupying power in Iraq' ...and when Bob asked him if he thinks 'Pres. Bush gets that'....CAAB said 'I think so...maybe, I saw an article in the New York Times the other day that said he is thinking of drawing down troops'... Levin was gleeful...because they were saying the other day that they only need ONE more GOP Senator on their side to be able to override a POTUS veto!! ... Double dang..."
- #195; "Al-queda urges Iraqis to wage jihad on Americans...and yet it is the American troops that FREE 42 Iraqi hostages from a torture chamber, being run by al-Queda. ... OH..h ow I wish this story would get BIG play this weekend.. because it pinpoints the necessity for our presence.. and our successes... Also...it SHOULD show the Dems and SOME GOP that this is not a fight for the skittish...and it is not a fight that will stop. ... I hate to say this...but on this weekend especially, I am really disappointed in Sessions rhetoric. ... He DID say that we have to depend on Gen. Petraeus because he wrote the book on how to fight these enemies...but, in the same interview says we can no longer be an 'occupying power'. ... We are NOT.. how many time has the POTUS stressed that we are there at the behest of the PM of the sovereign nation of Iraq???"
- #233; "To answer your question Johnnie.. even though you didnt ask me... I have my doubts about this passing.. and I think that the GOP should not only fight for what they think is right...but they should also know that if it does 'fail'..they can say it failed under the DEM majorites in the House and Senate... soo...failure in this case, may be the best hope of the GOP..." (note: this is a reply MNJohnnie's post #208 with the quetion "will the immigration bill pass")
- #303; "hmmmmm.. 'everyone went home happy'...huh?? ... yeeesh. ... Maybe.. but those at home might not be that happy...unless you are a surrender the war fan. ... I am glad that Sessions said that he respects Gen. Petraeus and will wait for his report...but dang...even Pres. Bush had to acknowledge during the presser the other day...that since al-queda and Iran know that this September report by Petraeus COULD be the dealmaker or breaker... There will be a bloodbath in August... Soooo that pretty much sets up the no-win scenario that the Dems and MSM want... And, you add to that the statement by Harry Reid a month or so ago that we wouldnt BELIEVE what Petraeus says anyway...and I say, if Sessions feels that way. .and Bush already knows what is going to happen, that the Dems, MSM, and the GOPers that are already hedging their bets.. are saying this.. ... Then they need to just bring the troops home now."
