Richardson has been alleged to have a very unsavory past, to the extent that a lib commenter stated that Bill Richardson makes Tom Delay look like a choirboy.

He did not supply details, which is a pity.

I guess I would point out the BP is no different then any other Bureaucracy. They are never going to come out and say "Yeah that NG move really helped us out."

Like EVERY bureaucracy everywhere, they are always going to say "We are dying out here, give us MORE!!!!"

I guess as a conservative, what is really sticking in my craw is the bulk of the "Conservative" movement, who whined endlessly about "spending like drunken sailors" for the last 6 years NOW have NO problem advocating spending like drunken sailors when the bureaucrats slap a "border security" label on the spending!

The problem with this bill, in my view, is it is a typical unworkable DC boondoggle. DC took a look at the problem and said "ah HA, the solution is MORE law, MORE rules, MORE Bureaucrats. I guess as an old conservative, I got to ask, "How do MORE laws, more spending, more bureaucrats going to do anything to stop people who are all ready breaking the existing law?"

Of course, because that conveniently lets him pander to the Know Nothing wing his base by blaming an unpopular President for it. Doesn't change the fact the Democrats killed 4477 by filibustering to keep it out of the US Senate bill.

Should the President of bowed to the inevitable and shelved his ideas on "Comphrensive reform" and fought hard for that bill. YES. Does don't change the fact the Democrat Senators filibustered to kill it?

I raised that question with Mark Krikorian of CIS. He said that he thought it was closer to 12 based on official records like births and deaths. Yet, the Bear-Stearns Report goes up to 20 million. Illegal immigrants in the US: How many are there?

The sad part is that we really don't know. So how can you make good public policy without having hard data, especially with such a range, i.e., 12 to 20 million or higher? That is one reason why we shouldn't pass this legislation. Once their status is legalized, those illegals already here can bring in their wives, children, and one set of parents per family. The numbers could be enormous.
