Police: Illinois Man Beat His Girlfriend's Son to Death While She Served in Iraq

CALUMET CITY, Ill. — A man beat his girlfriend's 4-year-old son to death after she left the boy in his care while she was deployed to Iraq, police said.

Donell Parker, 23, was charged Friday with first-degree murder in the death of Cameron Smith. The boy was found dead in his bed Thursday in a suburb south of Chicago.

Parker told police he beat the boy, but would not say why, said Calumet City police Chief Patrick O'Meara.

Cameron was punched in the head, stomach and chest, and whipped with a belt from Tuesday to Wednesday evening, O'Meara said. An autopsy found he died of blunt-force trauma to the abdomen and head, O'Meara said.

The boy's 7-year-old sister and 8-year-old brother had also been in Parker's care, O'Meara said. They were put in the custody of their maternal grandparents after Cameron was found dead.

Cameron's mother, Sgt. Lavada Smith, 28, was headed back to Illinois Friday after spending only ten hours at her new duty station in Iraq.

It’s a good thing he didn’t have a Hispanic surname, or this thread would ‘head south.’

What that poor baby went through. Why do so many of these women with children “hook-up” with thugs?

Prayers for the older kids and the mother. They’re going to need it.

For those who don't know the area, Calumet City is a neer do well suburb that borders the South Side of Chicago. Back in the late 1950s, it was filled with refugees from the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. These days, it is filled with gubmint cheese eaters and the odd lower middle class family here and there.

Were I a religious person, I would pray for this child. Since I am not a religious person, I just hope that this piece of merde gets shanked in the shower.

Now there’s a novel way to get your booty girl out of duty.

Here is the other side of the story, from an email today:

Well this email brings bad news. As I continue my walk with Christ I encounter trouble. As you know I am the Platoon Sergeant for about 45 people. Well very resently I sent a soldier home after hearing news of his 4 year old sons death. Resons to why he was killed were withheld and now I understand why. As a parent of 5 I could not find the words to say to comfort him. I just told him that I would get him home and pray for him and his family. My soldier left the other day, and I now find out that his son was beaten to death by someone who was supposed to be careing for him and is other two brothers. Thank the LORD that his other two children were not harmed. Long story short is that his marriage was on the rocks and his wife was dateing someone else. When she was called to Iraq (she is in the national guard) she left the children in the care of this man. I find this out and my heart breaks. An innocent child had to suffer, no one should have to deal with this. Nevertheless, my heart goes out to the family and I ask everyone to pray for God to heal and comfort this families heart and repair all that has been destroyed. I know that I probably will never see my soldier back here in Iraq, but I pray that he is able, through the strength of God, to keep moving on. When you are deployed your soldiers becomes one of your own children, you teach them, guide them, and protect them. As his family goes through this, my heart breaks and goes out to them. Even as I write this email I cannot understand why things such as this happen. Now I really cant even talk about it. Well please pray for him and his wife and other kids, that things wont get worse for them and he will find Christ through this tragety.

thanks

Family members said Cameron's father, Gary Smith Jr., 27, had been deployed to Iraq last August and last saw his three children on a brief leave in January. O'Meara said the children's parents were separated.

Still married, three kids, hooked up with scumbag. Dad away doing his duty.

Words fail me.

Parker told police he beat the boy, but would not say why, said Calumet City police Chief Patrick O'Meara.

Gimme a break -- the only truthful answer is the "boyfriend's" an cruel sociopathic POS.

For a reporter to write that he "would not say why" is to imply that somewhere out there is a rational justification for beating a four year old to death. There's NOT.

This type of mental idiocy from the police chief to the reporter to the printed page is bogus. Shame on all of them.
