The mission was completed with the precision and expertise of a finely coordinated military campaign. With no room for error, hundreds of motorcycles - the Run for the Wall participants - escorted by the Louisiana State Police, turned into the Love's Truck Stop in Tallulah at approximately 10:00 am Monday morning. The advance guard had arrived earlier, securing the perimeter and coordinating with the truck stop, ensuring that their mission would be accomplished.
On May 16, the bikers on the Southern and Central Routes departed from Ontario, California, on their annual "Run for the Wall, ending at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC on May 26. Run for the Wall was formed to promote healing among all veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), and to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars. For most of them, the personal journey is one of honor, hope and healing. They ride for friends whose names grace the Vietnam War Memorial. For "Poppy Stick," a US Army veteran who served in Vietnam from 1972 - 1974, joining the Southern Route at the Love's Truck Stop for his first run, it's a mission for his brother. Lance Corp. L. M. Buchanan, USMC, served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. He passed away a year ago and "Poppy Stick" rides for him.
