Inside the mind of Sen. Teddy Kennedy:
I see that many of my fellow liberal Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, are trashing my immigration bill.
Those fools! Can't they see the gift I'm giving them? This bill will not only improve social justice and enhance racial diversity in America, but will also wreck the Republican Party - what's not to like?
And here's the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund coming out against the bill. And the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition - in my own home state! - calls the bill "immoral, unworkable and unacceptable."
Come on, people. I am the Lion of Liberalism. And yet, of all the liberal causes I have championed in my 44 years in the U.S. Senate, immigration is surely at the top of the list. As far back as 1965, I was a key player in the immigration expansion; millions of new Americans owe their citizenship to me. And I was a big player, too, in the immigration reforms of '86 and '90; I secured amnesty for millions and, once again, protected diversity.
Thanks to me, America today looks more like the world. Yeah, I know, the Kennedys were once the champions of white working-class Catholics, in Massachusetts and around the country. But back in the '70s, I realized that they were turning conservative on me; they were just too much against crime, welfare and abortion. Those Archie Bunkers actually booed me during the school-busing crisis in Boston!
That's when I reached a strategic decision: If the Democratic Party is going to thrive in this right-wing era of greed, it needs to expand the base - and import a new base, if need be.

It’s all pretend to make it sound like a “compromise.”
Ted Kennedy is Ted Kennedy. The problem now is not Kennedy it’s Republican politicians that have JOINED Kennedy and pals on selling out the USA.I have never expected anything good for our country coming from the Democrap side of the aisle however when Republicans join these people in cutting our throats on issues like immigration I don’t hold much hope for our country !!!
>>I see that many of my fellow liberal Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, are trashing my immigration bill.<<
Some have suggested that Pelosi’s threats about the bill are lies to make amnesty opponents complacent. And yet she doesn’t want to make GW look good, and doesn’t want house Dems to be blamed in 2008.
Ironic how Dems are pushing amnesty, so far, to give GW prestige for his legacy, while GW’s amnesty push has infuriated the Republican base against several Republican senators. Pinkerton could write another satire about Bush’s and Rove’s minds.
It's the ancient art of negotiation: ask for three times as much as you really want so as to appear to 'negotiate' or to give up ground to the other side to reach an agreement thus getting what you wanted what you wanted from jump street. Nothing new here.
Precisely!
Now that we have identified the problem lets find a solution.
Call, e-mail, fax, Call, e-mail, fax, Call, e-mail, fax, Call, e-mail, fax, Call, e-mail, fax.
BTTT.
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them.
It may be more like this:
1. The Dems know the people hate the bill, so come out against it rhetorically, and demand GOP support.
2. The GOP, if they are stupid enough to give their support, provide the political cover for the Dems to pass an outrageous bill most Americans oppose, without the Dems getting blamed.
Hence the Democrat complaints are designed to tamp down that eagerness.

It is absurd to compromise on the future of this country by replacing something horrific with something just slightly less horrific but horrific nevertheless.
Guess what....
