And Unionists in the South fared little better, being jailed without trial or hung out of hand. Why is it acceptable in your view for Unionists to be punished without trial and not Southern supporters?

A very good question, but I have my doubts whether you'll get an answer.

Do any defenders of the Dixie defenders of liberty wish to address this?

I believe that a traitor is a traitor, and should be treated acordingly. In the North, Valdingham was a traitor to his home, etc. and could have been punished accordingly.
By the same standard, Unionist in the South, should have been and in many cases were as well.
