"The Dead Horse in the Living Room: School Shootings"
Intellectual Conservative ^ | 23-May-2007 | steve pudlo

There’s an old story about a couple who moved into a new neighborhood. When their next door neighbor invited them to dinner, they gladly accepted. When the big evening arrived, they donned their best social attire, grabbed a little gift for the host and hostess, and presented themselves at the neighbor’s front door at the appointed time, hungry, and ready to cement their new friendship.

Once inside, they immediately became aware that there was a dead horse on the living room floor! The hosts made no mention, indeed they quietly stepped over it in offering hors doevres, wine and small talk. When moving from the living room to the dining room, they had to step over the poor thing, yet the hosts acted like nothing was amiss. Dinner was splendid except for the knowledge that there was a dead horse in the next room, yet no one seemed to find it the least bit odd. It was strange, but even after dinner, when they retreated from the dining room back to the living room, there was that huge dead horse in the living room floor. The hosts continued to step over it each time they moved about, and they paid absolutely no attention, yet it was still there, plain as life.

Finally, as the new couple made their way past the dead horse to take their leave, the wife couldn’t take it anymore. She turned to the hostess and asked “are you aware that there is a dead horse on your living room floor?” The hostess replied “Of course, but we don’t like to talk about it”.

We cannot effectively deal with any issue if we are afraid to discuss it.

That people with permits should be able to carry on school grounds.

Are school shootings an "issue?" More people are killed by illegal immigrants every day (murder and traffic fatalities) than are killed in school shootings in a year. Why are they considered an "issue" ?

Much agree. Been saying that repeatedly to the head of our security on campus. Will be saying it to the College President.

Someone who opposes guns would never put a sign on their lawn declaring: "I have no guns. I will not defend my property." It would be an invitation to robbers. Why advertise your vulnerability?

Of course, that's what schools do when they declare "This is a gun-free zone".

In my opinion, the signs should read: "This is a killing zone. Self-defense is not allowed in this area".

Well? There’s a dead horse on the living room floor. At least when we think of school security, and the possibility of some nut case coming in and shooting up the place, and the people inside ( from the article)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Oh,,,the liberal/Marxists do see the dead horse. Their response though is to treat those inside the school buildings like prisoners. Just look at their terminology and actions:

1) Metal detectors.
2) Searches.
3) “Lock Downs”
4) “Zero Tolerance”.
5) “In-house Suspensions”
6) Punishment for forbidden speech.
7) Good behavior and bad behavior reports on permanent records.

school shootings are considered an issue because they usually involve children.

the libs do not want the issue of guns an crime to go away - they use it to further their own agenda - government control. Their actions do nothing to decrease crimie, but always seem to dovetail with their agenda, whilsst the ‘problem’ they’re supposedly tryign to solve remains and grows stronger.

“This is a killing zone. Self-defense is not allowed in this area”.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

What steams me is that the Liberal/Marxists teach children to behave like bleating sheep. What is this with “lock downs”?

There are really only 3 responses a person can take to a gun toting Columbine-like terrorist:

1) Run

2) Fight back and possibly die like a man or woman of true grit.

3) Huddle in a corner, snivel, cry, and beg for your life. ( Lockdowns fall into this category, and this is the true character of the Liberal/Marxist.)

Yes! An ephiany!

Please see post #11. THIS is why they teach children to act like crying, bleating sheep! Sheep are much more easily controlled. If the ultimate aim of the Liberal/Marxist is to destroy Western Civilization how much easier it is to do if the citizens cry and whimper in the corner.

While it's a seperate issue, we're in a slightly worse spot here in NYC and NJ, because no one is allowed to have a permit.

But one problem at a time I guess.

re: 11 you are absolutely correct. and if you ARE armed, then your chances of putting up an effective defense are much better.

if you whine, beg for your life and plead in the corner, then if the bad guy lets you live, you can play the victim card, go on oprah, and be a celebrity without dignity. bad news is that there isn’t much keeping the bad guy from offing you as well.

tai far, far better to be able to defend ones self. cheaper too.

Yesterday while waiting for a vital record at an office, we walked over to our state capitol. We walked in, and asked about the tours and were told we could join one, or go on our own. No one was checked anywhere, and we roamed the entire building. I couldn’t believe we were not searched. I had forgotten what the freedom of not being a suspect was like.

school shootings are considered an issue because they usually involve children.

And this makes them special how? "It's for the children" is the hypocritical battle cry of every left wing tyrant wannabe for expanding government power and taking away freedom and money from the citizens. How many children have been killed by drunk illegal Mexicans driving on our roads in the last year? Don't remember hearing anyone say that this is an "issue"

I agree with you on illegals. School shootings make people squirm because there are a lot of children gathered together and made vulnerable by inane ‘feel good’ policies.

Oh, I don't know - this guy pretty much did just that.

We know that name of that dead horse – the college administration is afraid of guns and had banned them from campus – even by licensed permit holders.

Back in my day, there were no school shootings. We'd park in the school parking lot with our windows rolled down with loaded guns in headache racks without a second thought. I think all this violence is due to so many mamsy-pamsy folks being so afraid of guns that they've somehow glorified them to the scumbags of the earth. If they weren't banned and talked about in hushed voices, we wouldn't have nut cases planning these killing sprees.
