"My only explanation is that it is medically related in some way," Migden, 56, said in an interview with The Chronicle.
The Democratic lawmaker who represents San Francisco and Marin County said she plans to underdo neurological tests to try to determine what may have happened.
"I owe an explanation to the public and myself and, in particular, the person I hurt,'' she said, referring to the driver of a Honda sedan who was slightly injured in a rear-end collision. "I don't have a recollection of what happened. I can only conclude I had a medical event I can't explain. It's not an excuse; it may be an explanation."
Migden said she was diagnosed with leukemia in 1997 and could not find a match for a bone marrow transplant. She said medications that she took after her diagnosis caused her to lose her hair but not her will to fight the disease.
In February her doctors at UCSF told her she was disease free, but she still takes six chemotherapy pills a day. She chose not to make her medical condition public.

This is way better than the old “I have a drinking problem” trick.
What oral chemo is she on??
Sounds like that’s at least cause to revoke her driver’s license.
I’m sorry if she is sick, but if she is so sick that she is having blackouts, perhaps she should not still be in the Senate.
The.
Chick.
Was.
Drunk.
Could have stroked out.
“I don’t have a recollection of what happened.”
Then the press release that her office made related to answering a cell phone was a lie?
Nevermide the 911 calls about the crazy lady reading and talking on a cell phone while driving ...
Absolute ly :)
My dad was on gleevec and it never cause any disorientation.

I think her claim is “black out”. If her drugs make her anemic enough, it could indeed cause her to black out/passout IF she stands up, sitting is usually not a problem. If she is that anemic she should be on procrit or similar drug.
I too am very sorry for her illness. But why all the various stories about what happened? Can you imagine if a Republican caused a car crash and blamed it on something else?
She should have been forthcoming from the very beginning. And perhaps she should not be a licensed driver if she has a bad medical condition.
Then it’s a DUI. Prosecute her.
Or on the Freeway. This medical impairment issue is the last biggie left unsolved by DMVs. Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders are rampant among the obese, who nod off at the wheel frequently. The good news is that they aren't often hurt when they roll over into the ditch, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for those they contact along the way off the road.
But just in case Migden's drugs cause problems, Attention Ahnolt, pull the leukemic lesbian's licence, pronto OK? One of her girlfriends can drive her
Color me skeptical.
Exactly. First it was that she was "disoriented." Next it was the cell phone. Then we hear about drivers who witnessed reckless driving long before the crash, and we're back to "disoriented."
Still stinks.
With you. I am so tired of people blaming “manic depressive illness” or some such twaddle for their crimes.
My husband was manic depressive. When he became sick enough to cause problems, he had to retire, and we didn’t let him drive. There’s no inbetween.
If her illness is causing her to be so sick she’s causing car accidents, she’s not well enough to be in the Senate.
