Chicago - By an almost two-to-one margin, Midwest Lutherans voiced solid opposition to decapitation, suicide bombing, and chemical warfare in a new comprehensive survey of their social attitudes.
The Pew Research survey, conducted May 13-19, queried nearly 2,500 randomly selected Lutherans at flea markets and convenience stores across the Midwest. Interviews were conducted in High Plains Twang, Great Lakes Nasal and Flat Ohio Valley Bland.
If there is one headline here, its how remarkably moderate the Lutheran community is, said Pew director Andrew Kohut of the survey, which was co-sponsored by the Council on American-Yooper Relations. It really paints a picture of a dynamic culture in or somewhere near the American mainstream.
Only to the glory of God.
Even as a Lutheran I have some strong Calvinist tendencies
I once heard it said that, predestination wise:
Calvin didn't teach anything that Luther didn't teach
Luther didn't teach anything that Augustine didn't teach
Augustine didn't teach anything that Paul didn't teach
and Paul didn't teach anything that Jesus(God) didn't teach
A Christian being against suicide (homicide) bombing, decapitation of kidnapped victims and the like! Gosh, who would have thought that!
Well, they say the real difference between a Presbyterian and a Baptist is that the Presbyterian can speak to a fellow church member if he runs into him at the wine store.
The operating rule is that you shouldn't do anything to cause a brother to stumble. So since some folks find alcohol to be a stumbling block, you shouldn't do anything to encourage others to drink. One should also avoid drinking to intoxication.

That looks like it would be wonderful with lutefisk.

This is classic. They keep posting similar new ones too.
Hilarious and thought provoking at the same time. Genius.
Green jello, grated carrots and mayonaise, imo disgusting.
I’m LCMS used to be ELCA but they did go too far left.
And I thought I was in a SECRET organization!
It used to be. But why do they figure ALL Lutherans are yoopers? (that would be the Finnish Lutherans) What about the Minnesooootan Lutherans, the Swedish and Norwegian Lutherans? (oh ok there are pockets of Finnish Lutherans here too). I hear there's some tension between those sects. The Finns make their coffee too strong for the Swedes and Norskis, and a tragic number of Swedes and Norskis keep calling the sauna a sahh-na! And they call Nisu "cardamom bread." What's with that!? Näkemiin, hyvästi.
The word “largely” makes the whole column. Thanks!
