Senator Coburn makes me proud to be a displaced Okie. My “representives” in the Congressional delegation from the People’s Republic of Mary Land (Elijah Cumming, Barbie Mikulski, and that Twerp Ben Cardin) make me sick. Homesick.

We are each responsible for our own actions.

You talk past my point.

The concentration camp guard who shoved the elderly woman into the gas chamber with the butt of his rifle is guilty of murder.

The SS bureaucrat who ordered the murders is an accomplice to this murder.

The "Fuehrer" who created the SS and formed its policies is an accomplice to murder.

And the philosopher who advocated the creation of the SS and justified its actions on moral grounds is also an accomplice to murder.

Acknowledging the culpability of every actor does not involve the absolution of any particular actor.

No, the Goreons haven’t actually murdered millions of people.

Philosophically, the 19th century saw everything in terms of evolution. Everything is getting Bigger, Stronger, Better. It was only a matter of time till someone applied that paradigm to humans themselves.

The marine biologist and self-proclaimed expert on pesticides.

From Wilkipedia:

Silent Spring remains a founding text for the contemporary environmental movement in the West and is seen as an important work to this day.

The premier conference room in the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency (where EPA press conferences and meetings with the EPA Administrator are held) was named "The Rachel Carson Room." The building is at 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington DC.

Not yet. They have brought discomfort to many already.

More lives were saved by the use of asbestos than were taken from its misuse.

Thousands of fires never happened.

“legacy of scientific rigor coupled with poetic sensibility.”

Yup, she's right up there with the "scientific rigor" which determined that the earth was flat and the sun revolved around it. Thanks to her, millions are dead from malaria and other insect-borne diseases. She should have stuck with the "poetic sensibility" and left the "scientific rigor" to those who are qualified.

she was a Marine Biologist living in Pittsburgh....

What more do you need to know?

At least this Senator is better than Pittsburgh’s sycophant City Council. They re-named a bridge in honor of this woman last year. The “Carson Bridge” leads to the North Side, whereas “Carson Street” is several miles away in the other direction, on the South Side. All they’ve managed to do is to get a lot of out-of-towners good and lost!

If Mr. Cardin likes the idea, I don’t.

I’ll bet Ms. Carson would have been pro-choice. Save the bugs, to hell the human babies. Betcha.

Correct, and even though others had hinted around at the subject, it was Darwin who first formulated the theory of evolution. Eugenics COULD NOT exist without a belief in evolultion and eugenics has been responsible for OVER ONE BILLION DEATHS in less than a century (when abortion is included).

Its senseless to argue for or against policy or materials from the perspective of lives lost since all lifeforms die; we need a true metric that shows direct harm rather than speculation on vague numbers of years of “quality life” before major changes are made.

Rachel Carson should be recognized in the same company as Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot.

More like Karl Marx. She was a "visionary" who was tragically wrong. But she did not implement her vision.
