WASHINGTON, DC - May 21, 2007 (MASNET) Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia gave the keynote address for the 5th Annual Muslim American Society (MAS) Freedom Foundation 'Standing for Justice Dinner'.
The governor, joined by members of his cabinet, spoke individually with Muslim community leaders during a special leadership reception. The reception was followed by the Freedom Foundation Award Dinner.
In an occasion marking the first public speech to a Muslim gathering by a Virginia governor, he acknowledged the civic work and civil rights accomplishments of the Freedom Foundation, and stressed the need for people of all faith traditions to work together to overcome intolerance and bigotry.
Imam Sheikh Rashid Lamptey of the Muslim Association of Virginia (MAV) gave a powerful inspirational address that stressed civic participation as an essential dimension of the Muslim faith and our contribution to the larger society.

Oxymoron Alert!
I just flew into Jeddah and my arms are too tired for head-hacking! I'll be here through the haj - try the lamb.
The gathering was one hundred percent male.
The Incredible Persistence of a Proven Lie
They deny being linked with the Muslim Brotherhood. They are however anti-war -- this article notes the man was speaking at an anti-war rally.
I know frontpage tried to tie them together. This article references that. I figure I can be attacked for just suggesting we keep an open mind on muslims, and I do not have any knowledge that they are not tied.
But having to even say that makes me feel creepy -- it reminds me of people being asked to "prove" that they were not communists, just because someone else would say they were.
This paragraph, whether they are actually linked or not, expresses my frustration with a lot of the "muslim ties to terrorists" stories:
No proof of our guilt is necessary for them, of course. All that is required is for them to say that terrorist X met with suspect Y in the vicinity of of Masjid Z, which is in the same town as the MAS office and the home of Dr. Esam Omeish. And presto! The Muslim American Society is transmogrified, by specious association, into a violent organization fronting for the Death to America crowd.
It is very easy to "tie" people to things. And with terrorism being primarily a muslim activity, we are right to be suspect and to cast extra scrutiny on muslim groups. But it is easy for this to be a witch hunt, a lynch mob, to get people to blindly accept any allegation, upon which the only thing a muslim or organization can do to "get out from under the cloud" is to denounce his organization, to separate from all other muslims, and maybe convert to a "safer" religion.
I imagine a lot of people wouldn't think that's a bad thing. But America is not supposed to be about people being cowed from their beliefs in fear. That's what the PC police try to do.
The Muslim American Society (MAS) traces its historical roots back to the call of the Prophet Muhammad ( Peace be upon him). Its more recent roots, however, can be traced to the Islamic revival movement which evolved at the turn of the twentieth century.
What the story doesn't tell you is the founder of the 'Islamic revival movement' was Hasan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Its chief ideologue was Sayyid Qutb. Both advocated and preached Islamic/Arabic supremacy and the overthrow of democracy and the subjugation of Jews and Christians. Democracy was inimical to them. Al-Banna was assassinated. Qutb was executed by the Egyptian government for treason. Hezbollah and Hamas are two of the more well known offshoots of the Brotherhood. Make no mistake about it, MAS is aligned with the Brotherhood.
This is exactly what I’m talking about. That an organization was founded a hundred years ago by the same person who also founded another organization that TODAY is a terrorist group doesn’t mean the first organization today is tied to that other organization.
It wouldn’t surprise me if sympathisers for the Muslim Brotherhood are also members of MAS today, and that wouldn’t itself be a “tie” either.

Read what the ousted former leader and founding member of MAS says.
Here is an interesting paragraph:
" Elsayed says MAS does not believe in creating an Islamic state in America but supports the establishment of Islamic governments in Muslim lands. The group's goal in the United States, he says, "is to serve and develop the Muslim community and help Muslims to be the best citizens they can be of this country." That includes preserving the Muslim identity, particularly among youths."
What non-Muslims need to understand is that the goal is to develop the Muslim community (outreach, interfaith garbage, political candidates, etc.) so as to create a Muslim land where they can then establish an Islamic government.
Welcome to the club of those who understand their code. They also intend to outbreed the world to establish an Islamic majority everywhere. Islamic law is geared towards suppression and elimination of non-believers through marriage and custody laws. Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslims while Muslim men can marry anyone. However, the chidren of any marriage of a Muslim are considered Muslims. Do the math.

You might find this one interesting also if you haven’t read it before.
“Welcome to the club of those who understand their code”
I’ve been a member of that club for a long time.
I was there. :)

I'm sure. No slight intended. Just trying to emphasize the fact that many of the seemingly progressive Islamic organizations use carefully crafted language to appeal to our gullability while shielding their true agenda....Regards, C
“No slight intended.”
Absolutely none taken. I’m with you on this.
A little more background on the MAS and Muslim Brotherhood link here:
Thank you. I blame Clinton and Bush both for this. I fear our troops will come home to find that while we’ve been fighting them over there, the enemy has grown to mammoth proportions right here at home. Our efforts are not where they need to be yet, but CAIR, MAS, and the Islamist community in general are feeling the push. Islam is antithetical to our Bill of Rights and our Constitution and cannot be allowed to flourish in America.
