The Case for Bombing Iran
Commentary ^ | June, '07 | Norman Podhoretz

Posted on 05/22/2007 8:01:45 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

Podhoretz thoughtfully examines all the conventional pros and cons of attacking Iran. He quotes Bernard Lewis, the greatest authority of our time on the Islamic world: "MAD, mutual assured destruction, [was effective] right through the Cold War. Both sides had nuclear weapons. Neither side used them, because both sides knew the other would retaliate in kind. This will not work with a religious fanatic [like Ahmadinejad]. For him, mutual assured destruction is not a deterrent, it is an inducement. We know already that [Iran's leaders] do not give a damn about killing their own people in great numbers. We have seen it again and again. In the final scenario, and this applies all the more strongly if they kill large numbers of thir own people, they are doing them a favor. They are giving them a quick free pass to heaven and all its delights."

Nope. Interesting that their first bomb went *pop* not *BOOOOM*, though.

Maybe we knew something in advance? (Maybe we 'helped' them)...

If you like what is going on in Iraq right now, go ahead and bomb a major islamic religous center. You would swing the 80% of them from a neutral stand to a negative one.

Bombing is not the solution to everything. Pacificism isnt either.

Iran will topple from within. THAT is where we should focus. When they get to the point of being close to building the bomb, we should take out those facilities only.

Bombing dams and other non military sites is simply stupid and not in the best interest of our overall mission: which is regime change and a positive relationship with the Iranian people.

The terrorist regime in Tehran will not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. President Bush will not allow it. You can go ahead and doubt the President as much as you want, but he is going to prove you and many wrong, as usual.

You mean the way he proved us conservatives wrong by actually doing something about our southern border?

Si' Senor, buenos dias.

Can you direct me to ze nearest Z-Visa office Senor'?

I'm not certain islam would survive the vaporization of the kaaba stone.

After all, what kind of 'god' can't protect this holiest of holies, an object that he requires everyone bend over and worship five times every day.

One that is so crucial that every True Believer must make at least one physical pilgrimage to visit in order to be in good grace with their pig-dog-god.

Yes, short term there would be a bloodbath the likes of which the world has never seen short of a Biblical Prophet's nightmares, but that will die down in less than a century.

The alternative is to have a much worse bloodbath spread over several millenia.

The Hydra was only killed when Hercules burned off the ‘immortal’ head.

Right now we are cutting the minor heads, and are dismayed when new ones grow to replace them.

We need to kill the multi-headed dragon at its core.

You are seeing the whole world through the spectrum of the illegal immigration issue. President Bush is the one leading to fight in this war on terror, commanding our brave troops to destroy the terrorists abroad and standing up to the traitors and defeatists here at home.

God bless President Bush and our brave troops for protecting our freedom and our way of life.

We can kill all the terrorists that walk out in front of us, but if other terrorists are able to walk in BEHIND us via our southern borders, the war on terror becomes an exercise in futility.

The illegal immigration issue IS a national security issue and I for one do not think our national security is enhanced when our Commander-in-Chief signs off on an amnesty deal that carries the stamp of approval of Senator Chappaquiddick and his fellow ‘Rats.

Nor do I think our national security is enhanced when law abiding American citizens have to provide a 5 year employment history to any prospective employer, with that data to be shared with any federal agency with access to that information, that’s a throwback to a Soviet-style police state and Americans should have no part of it, don’t you agree?

The one thing John McCain ever said that I loved: “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.”
