Report: Mark Martin To Sub For Jeff Gordon In Baby Crisis
May 23, 2007 2:44 p.m. EST
Concord, N.C. (AHN)-Mark Martin's three Busch Series attempts for Hendrick Motorsports for 2007 may not be the only chance he gets with that organization this year. As a matter of fact, Martin may actually get to drive four-time series champion Jeff Gordon's car should the birth of his daughter interfere with Gordon's racing schedule.
According to sources within the organization who spoke to ESPN.com, Martin's name continues to be the one that will substitute for Gordon in his No.24 Dupont Chevrolet, should he need it. Martin, who will fly out during the Sonoma weekend to assist youngster, Regan Smith in the No.01 Army Chevy, will also play a standby role for Jeff.
Jeff and his wife, Ingrid Vandebosch, are expecting a baby girl the week of June 24. The Nextel Cup series will be at the road course of the Infineon Raceway that weekend. Gordon is the defending winner at Infineon and has amassed five victories in just 14 starts there.
Should the baby arrive a week early, Martin will hop into Gordon's car at Michigan, while Smith jumps into the No.01 machine. Should the baby arrive a week late, Martin will pilot the No.24 car in New Hampshire.
Gordon has not missed a race in 484 starts which goes all the way back to 1992
Yes he crashed big, lost it in the turn and hit the inside wall twice. He sounded so dejected, I felt sorry for him.
So no hope for Mikey this week? Bummer! I wish I could give him a hug, LOL!
His other car Reutimann crashed also, but good news DJ, the third MW car got in this week.
ESPN officials announced that Ned Jarrett will return to television broadcasting this weekend, joining son Dale in the booth for ESPN's coverage of the Busch Series Carquest Auto Parts 300 from Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Ned Jarrett, who won titles in NASCAR's premier series in 1961 and 1965, was a mainstay on ESPN's NASCAR coverage, working as an analyst for the network from 1986-2000.

"I didn't get to race against Dale because he was only 9 years old when I retired, but now to have the chance to work with him in the broadcast booth, my second career, is pretty neat," Ned said in a statement.
The two have never worked together in the broadcast booth, but one of NASCAR's indelible moments happened in the 1993 Daytona 500, when Ned called the final lap of Dale's first 500 victory.
Dale Jarrett, who collected NASCAR's Cup title in 1999 and now drives for Michael Waltrip Racing in the Nextel Cup Series, has served as an analyst for five Busch races this season.
"I've honestly been impressed," Ned said. "I'm prejudiced, but I also feel I'm realistic. He's done a good job for the role he's been in. I've had a lot of people tell me he puts it in ways they can understand it, and they appreciate that.
"I told him that broadcasting would be as big a challenge as driving. I'm just as proud of what he's done in the broadcast booth as I am of what he's done in the race car."
That’s cool. I always liked Ned announcing. I sure miss Neil.

Nothing wrong with easy. Actually, smoking a pig shoulder roast is pretty easy... just have to be home for the day to give it a look see now and then. I can't wait for local sweet corn season. I think I'll grill the taters, and steam some local asparagus (thanks for the idea).
My son and I are building a basketball standard this weekend, so no doubt there's gonna be some one-on-one to be dealt with. I'll have to balance between keeping him in a good mood and wiping the court with him... suppose that depends on how tired or ornery I get. Wait a minute, I'm always tired. What's up with that? Tubebender? Buehler?
Come to think of it, I'm always ornery too... poor kid.
NYT demands smoker photos, so that's another easy task. The only trick will be staying awake for the end of the race after I get up at 5am to get the whole thing rolling :o)
Right you are!
Dang, I wish Ward could get a ride.
well I’m off to the nappy headed state
see ya tommorrow...
I’m going to send you a pound of Statin Drugs to keep you alive long enough for you to learn some healthy nutrition. You must stop eating Pig four days a week
