While Sen. Lindsey Graham was being booed in South Carolina for his support of the Senate Sham immigration bill, Sen. Saxby Chambliss was being hissed at by Republicans in Georgia for the same reason:
Delegates to the state Republican convention unleashed a rare chorus of boos and hisses at U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss on Saturday, as he spoke up for a bipartisan immigration reform package unveiled in Washington this week.
Saxby, meanwhile, had a fast explanation for the crowd’s reaction - they’re just ignorant!
After the speech, Chambliss said he took the crowd’s reaction as a lack of popular understanding of the shape of the current immigration system.
Don’t look now, Saxby, but there appears to be a wave of discontent on this bill. It started in South Carolina and seems to be sweeping west.
Here’s hoping the wave turns into a sunami.
Why don’t we pick out one of these dudes who resides in a state with a Republican Governor, so we can get a Republican replacement, and start a RECALL!
My state of Arizona is out since Dem Janet Napolitano is at the helm.
A couple of years back, I was flying home from Chicago and sat next to a liberal Democrat. We jousted until we found common ground for discussion.
We both supported Israel and he was more opposed to immigration than I was! If we start the ball rolling on recalls, we aren’t going to be alone on this.
What’s the particulars for Chambliss’s situation? I would think that dissing the constituents by calling them ignorant would be enough to get a lot of usually neutral people riled; at least enough to get a signature on a recall ballot.
sent you an FR mail
I’m sorry....i’m not on a connection that will let me read Freepmail...i wish i could read it! :(
“opposed to immigration than I was”
Im sure you meant “illegal” immigration...it ticks me when the MSM couches it as anti-immigration...i don’t personally know of anyone against plain ole immigration.
Hmmm, what kind of connection is that?
Those aren't your senators. They belong to Mexico.
We both supported Israel and he was more opposed to immigration than I was! If we start the ball rolling on recalls, we arent going to be alone on this."
I think there are plenty of legally immigrated ethnic Mexicans on our side, too.

Any kind of webamil is blocked.... :(
Here’s the FR mail:
Good post. You and I wonder the same things. Ive tried to figure out why President Bush is doing thisI really dont know, but a few things have run through my brain:
1. He thinks its the Christian thing to do to help out all the poor Mexicans that come herehe genuinely sympathizes with them/their plight.
2. He lives in a sheltered la, la land where the affects (current and future) of these policies on your average American just do not enter his braineither by choice (not wanting to know) or he cant even comprehend it.
3. Hes stubborn and hes made this his policy and he wont back down no matter what.
4. He has an affinity for people from South Americalikes their music, food, drinks, and thinks the women and babies are cute :)
5. He believes they are good for the country and the costs of having them here do not outweigh the benefits.
6. Hes doing it for the corporations/economy.
7. Hes looking forward to and trying to implement a future where the borders are erased.
8. Hes doing it under the notion that if we appease them and buy them off now, theyll vote Republican in the future.
9. The problem is too big and its easier to just call them all legal and solve it that wayafterall, no other president has tried to solve it in a meaningful way.
10. He sees a future population deficit and they are the most convenient way to fill it.
McCain/Feingold makes them arrogant. Multi-millionaires were handed the country when that law was passed.
Just sent two letters. Thanks for the links.
Thanks for posting that....we do think a lot alike....all of your suggestions have rattled around my noggin for a while now....i can’t point to one thing that completely fits the bill...it’s good to know that fellow Freepers have finally laid down the Kool-aid and starting thinking for ourselves....i for one was guilty of drinking hard on it and just putting everything in terms of us (repubs) and them(dems) concerning most issues.... i still despise what the democratic party stands for...but i also see the cliff that the country club repubs would lead us off.
Thanks again!
I tried to stick up for President Bush with family and friends for a long time, but I can’t do it any more with any heart. I do still hope that it’s the Repub candidate that gets in in 2008, and I just hope if they do manage to get in, they don’t stab us in the back. The thoughts of a Dem Prez with a Dem Congress is horrifying. It’s bad now—just think how far they would go with that scenario.
all of the above
Please forward to your friends in the Palmetto State. Throw that bum out of office in SC! We deserve better from a conservative state.

You could very well be right. I just wish for one moment in time, every politician was forced to tell the truth like Jim Carrey in Liar, Liar.
Your list is complete. George Bush is pro amnesty for some very nice humane reasons and some vile reasons such as to help out his money bags friends who employ them. I’m convinced GW had a lot of Mexicans “help” growing up and it made a life long impression on him. A life long desire to help these people come here for better lives
I think a lot of us have had to be honest with ourselves foremost....there’s been quite a bit that we’ve had to defend Bush on but as you say...we’ve lost the heart for it...we generally know what’s right and wrong and we can’t turn our back on our principles....even Jim Rob knows that Bush was annointed to be the front runner in 2000...any solid conservative saw that play by the Republican elites...we went along with it to keep the dems out...we all know that it would be worse with a Dem in the WH...we’ve half-heartedly went along with all the spending that Bush has agreed to...thinking it was all a Rovian plot to keep the issue out of the Dems hands...We’ve swallowed it because we have been on a semi war footing or so we thought.
This Bill shows up 6 years after 9/11...Bush seemed giddy after the 2006 elections because he finally had the crew he could work with...what were us conservatives supposed to think? He’s signed on to a bill that Ted Kennedy is part of...they are all yukking it up and slapping each other on the back...i’m supposed to roll over and think up some good talking points to defend this? not anymore.....i don’t know of anything more important than the control of a nation’s borders....knowing for the most part who is coming in and who is here already...9/11 was a failure of immigration controls on the basic level...we really don’t know who is coming into this country...we are still passing out Visas like candy.....we still don’t have a handle on it and our first bill that supposedly addresses this is a complete JOKE.....the average American can see that we are not serious about this...money trumps everything...even our security.
How do we find our way out of this mess? I don’t know...putting the Dems in charge is out of the question...so here we are...losing heart and wondering just what the hell is going on and where do we go from here.
Excellent post. I’ve got to get to bed now, but I enjoyed reading your thoughts about this subject. We’re all in this boat together.
