ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Walt Disney Co. didn't speak out when Hamas militants used a Mickey Mouse look-alike to preach Islamic domination because the company felt it would be ineffective, Disney's chief executive said Monday.
Disney CEO Robert Iger said he and other executives considered ways to react to the recent Hamas show for children that featured someone dressed in what appeared to be a Mickey Mouse costume, railing against Israel and the United States in a high-pitched cartoonish voice.
"We didn't mobilize our forces and seek to either have the clip taken down or to make any broad public statement about it," Iger told a gathering of the Society of Business Editors and Writers at the Disneyland Hotel.
"We were appalled by the use of our character to disseminate that kind of message," he said "I think anytime any group seeks to exploit children in that manner, it's despicable."

*cough* cowards *cough*
Never bring a lawyer to a gunfight.
Passive support?
Bob Iger is a bigger man than that. I expect that he’s being pretty candid here — Whatever they might have said would be ineffective and do nothing but give more coverage to the Islamists.
Each to his own, but, as a Disney stockholder, I’m with Iger on this one.
Unless the lawyer is packing heat!
Bingo! I will wager that Disney received a call and email from CAIR with more than a few veiled threats. Pardon the obvious pun.
Why don’t they tell the truth?
Like “We did not say ANYTHING because these were not white heterosexual Christians so we did not have a problem with them”.
While I agree that it would be ineffective in stopping a criminal organization like Hamas, it WOULD be effective in clarifying Disney's disapproval. As a minimum, Disney could have stated that they disapprove and did not authorize this use of one of its characters. Silence is a tacit approval.
FWIW, I believe that the Disney people wimped out on this situation. This is like the Danish cartoons and the Disney people folded like a lawn chair.
I’m really not sure what Disney could do to stop it, but they should have at least made a statement. (If they did, I missed it.)
Disney won’t rock the boat on this one. Too many children in their parks. A good move by Disney.
c’mon Disney, you expect us to believe that?
I remember how you spazzed back in ‘80 over that t-shirt that showed Mickey giving the ayatollah the finger.
If I set up a table with a dozen of those at a flea market in the middle of Arkansas, one of your corporate loy-aahs in a 3 piece suit would find me and serve a cease-and-desist order within 20 minutes.
We can smell the fear. And the cheese.
If Disney isn’t interested in protecting the trademark anymore, I guess it is fair game.
You better believe it was fear. Disneyland France would be the first to be torched.
Yup!
