Israel Should Give Up 'Not One Inch' of Land, GOP Presidential Candidate Says (Duncan Hunter)

If he becomes president, Rep. Duncan Hunter says he will continue to hold the position that Israel should surrender "not one inch" of disputed territory to the Arabs in exchange for pledges of peace.

Addressing a Christian Zionist meeting in Alexandria, Va., Sunday evening, the California Republican recalled a visit with his father to the Golan Heights, where they viewed a narrow valley where a small number of Israeli tanks had held off more than 1,400 Soviet-built Syrian tanks during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Hunter, a Vietnam veteran and former chairman and current ranking minority member of the House Armed Services Committee, said he had vowed then that he would always support what he called that "postage stamp of a country."

He and other speakers at the event spoke about the dangers they said were posed to Israel and the United States by Islamic terrorists and by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's pursuit of nuclear capability.

Christian and Jewish supporters of Israel attending the meeting heard criticism both of Democratic lawmakers' push to withdraw troops from Iraq and President Bush's policy of supporting the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Sunday's program, entitled a Night to Honor Israel, was sponsored by The Jerusalem Connection International under the auspices of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), an organization founded last year by San Antonio, Texas, pastor John Hagee.

CUFI will host a national summit in Washington D.C., in July, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich among those scheduled to speak.

Hunter is one of 10 Republicans vying for their party's 2008 presidential nomination. Seven of the 10, Hunter among them, are currently polling in the low single digits.

After all of our arguments, we found something to agree on.

I have researched the candidates and you are spot on. I don’t get it really, but then, I am in denial. I do get it, our votes can be bought, those with the bucks rise to the top. Those who get the face-time from the MSM rise to the top. I am afraid we have learned nothing from Bush and other RINO’s who have crapped on our conservative ideas and beliefs. One need only look at the polls and see who is on top, and why. Romney, fakey, a lot of “Road to the Whitehouse” conversion. McCain, Flakey, bordering on insanity. Ron “Uncle Nutsy” Paul, nothing really to say about him except, the sooner the mothership comes to pick him up, the better. Rudy, a mistakey, I think he meant to run as a Democrat. Fred Thompson, 2 term senator, speechwriter, actor. Sorry, don’t get the enthusiasm from his supporters. I know he is speaking out about this immigration bill, but I also know his rankings on immigration as a Senator do not reflect what he is saying now. If Bush has taught me anything, it is, that, for me at least, it is going to take more than sound bites, money and one-liners. When we hear what “cool things” these have said, we can usually point to what Duncan Hunter has done.

I love Duncan Hunter. Am I dreaming to think he has a real shot? I mean does a man with principles have any chance in our political culture which mocks principle and worships form over substance?

In fact, I feel pretty much the same about Thompson, but don’t really know if he’s quite as solid as Hunter.

That is a great question. It gets to the very heart of the matter, without all the posturing and BS. I are impress :)

Well that’s good news. To be honest, I can’t even remember what we disagreed about (although I vaguely recall disagreeing with you about something).

It was either the Iraq war or the economy. LOL That really narrows it down.

How can we get this guy elected? I haven’t found one issue I disagree with him on.

I've pondered that question long and hard....i.e. what is the biggest impact one person can have on getting Duncan Hunter the 2008 GOP nomination.

I think if each of us Hunter supporters would identify one local conservative talk show host (CTSH) that broadcasts in our home area and make it our mission to convince that CTSH through calling in and emailing him of the reasons why Duncan Hunter is the superior conservative candidate for the GOP 2008 nomination, I believe we would be successful in raising the conservative public's awareness of Hunter to a critical mass level. If we can convince the CTSH's to talk up Duncan Hunter (like Laura Ingraham has recently done) then I believe this is the quickest way to elevate his position in the polls and make him more visible to the voting masses.

Duncan Hunter and/or Newt Gingrich... They are the viable choices that I see so far, as I will vote for conservatism and leadership ability over celebrity hysteria.

Actually Congressman Hunter needs to ratchet things up a bit..

For every Rocket or Mortar Shell fired into Israel the Israeli Military should at it’s own discretion select and secure a strip of Gaza or the West Bank 1000m x 100 meters.
Move the wall, Raze Buildings what ever serves the interests of Israel better.. They should secure that land
“Forever”.

Please Israel do this this indeed would be land for peace the Islamofacist sacks of crap get to keep their land as long as they keep the peace losing some every time they break it.

It is just that simple and will work.

Also make every and any former suspected place in their Islamofacist cesspool subject to random strikes by artillery
So anytime anyone fires anything into Israel that place and any other place previously identified as a point of origin for attack is subject to attack at random..

You must change the rules of the game on the Islamofacists if you want to win. Get in their heads and stay there. Make every action against Israel they take subject to unpredictable negative consequences.

Forget what the US State Department, the UN or anyone else says..

Secure your nation against the Terrorists.

W

Thank you God for a candidate who understands about remaining a FRiend of Israel...

God promises to bless the nations who bless Israel and curse the nations who curse Israel....

If America ever turns her back on Israel...

Reagan came from low initial poll numbers to lead the nomination pack and eventually win the Presidency.

All that has to happen for Hunter to gain steam is for the people backing him to “catch fire” and convince everyone else.

Duncan Hunter already has my vote....

Agree with you both - I have yet to find a single thing with which I have a problem. He seems to truly be conservative in every way. He definitely has my vote in the primary.
