It's Political Suicide for the GOP

It's Political Suicide for the GOP John LeBoutillier Monday, May 21, 2007

We are witnessing political self-immolation on a major scale.

Right in front of our eyes we are witnessing the Bush-McCain Forces kill themselves politically — and, unfortunately, in the process they may kill any chances the GOP ever had of regaining Congress or keeping the White House in 2008.

Last week's "deal" for what is known as Comprehensive Immigration Reform, code for total amnesty for all law-breakers in hopes of getting their votes once they are given the vote, is the biggest act of political suicide we have seen since . . . ah . . . well . . . since Bush launched us into Iraq.

In fact, these two actions, the pre-emptive and totally unnecessary invasion of a country that had not attacked us and this disgusting act of border treason, solidify Bush as the worst Republican president ever — and the man who has done more damage to our nation than any other.

For decades, LBJ had that honor — as Vietnam and the so-called Great Society have haunted us for 40 years. But what George. W. Bush has done to every institution he has touched is truly tragic:

Our nation's reputation around the world: shattered. We are reviled, disrespected and loathed — thanks to his arrogant treatment of all other countries. (Even our most loyal ally, England, has seen Tony Blair ruined by his support of Bush's Iraq policy.)

Our military: crippled by a useless war with no end, and equally damaged by a weak military leadership without the guts to tell Bush that Iraq can't and won't work. It will take a generation, just like after Vietnam, to rebuild our Army in particular. Story Continues Below

The Republican Party: riding high across the board when he became president. Today? A shell of its former self. An empty vessel which stands for nothing. A party which seems to favor the rich over all others. A party of the Fortune 500 Board Rooms. Period. His father, the first President Bush, so screwed things up that he gave us Bill Clinton in 1992. God knows what is coming next year because of the misguided George W. Bush administration. He has made lefties like Hillary, Edwards, and Obama suddenly competitive — when they should be seen as so far to the left that they'd have no chance.

The American people: shattered with disgust over Bush, the government, the war, the lack-of-caring for our injured troops, and the blatant lies we have been told for years by Washington, D.C. Their cynicism has returned — and who can blame them? One note: Some readers always like to attack Bill Clinton and call him the worst president ever. Well, guess what? His awful behavior, Monica, cigars, "travelgate," and all the rest — were indeed abominable. His amorality is why Bush won over Gore in 2000; Bush's pledge to restore "honor and dignity to the White House' resonated. But this presidency has done much more irreparable harm to us all, and to our country.

9/11 was a golden opportunity — a defining moment — for George W. Bush to take a suddenly re-untied nation and use that unity for great purposes.

Instead he frittered it all away on Iraq. And he didn't need to.

“I didn’t sign up for PC rules of engagement, where our military cannot effectively wipe out an enemy’s stronghold”

I fully agree.

This business of going to war and then being “politically correct” in the way you prosecute it is disastrous.

On the issue of Immigration, the President and the RNC as a national party organization appear to be utterly disconnected from much of their base.

Its worse than that. Knowing the impact on the US, 'our' party flew this under the radar intenionally until they had a backroom deal with the Dems all but wrapped up.

We can support them and send millions into RNC and GOP and they think NOTHING of you - making this deal that will take trillions to pay for and destroy the country.

EVEN if this deal falls through we should be through with this party. I expect the Dems to kill me - at least they're honest about that. But now all knows that the GOP will do the same, to the base that put them there. Sobering.

Not if you don’t drink the Kool-Aide.

Yep. Its not even a done deal and everyone is throwing in the towel. I'm getting sick of all the doom and gloom. We will survive!

“The Jonestown massacre comes to the GOP in 2007????”

Actually, it came just prior to the 2006 elections when Bush continued relentlessly to push for comprehensive immigration reform, risking and loosing both the House and the Senate!!! He knew it was a critical election year, he refused to wait until AFTER the election and pressed forward with the bipartisan OBL agenda anyway! He joined with Ted Kennedy for gawd sakes and rather than stand united AGAINST his decision, Bush loyalists took up his cause, effectively dividing the party! It makes absolutely know ‘normal’ sense why he pressed on and I can only ask if it was purposeful.

So, what that tells me is that the OBL is a very powerful one who’s agenda has been set in motion and is going to be nearly impossible to beat! Open Borders and Amnesty are probably two of the biggest next steps in the NAU/SPP agenda and we need to do everything possible to nip this agenda in the bud.

Infamous RINO quotes:

Our long national nightmare is now over. Hello President Carter.

Read my lips. No new taxes. Hello President(s) Clinton.

It's not an amnesty bill. Hello?

Do you have a link to whatever it is you are talking about? - Sorry, I could not find it. It was on a Friday thread; it basically indicated two or three meetings which were held between Perot and Clinton leading up to 1992; it was not too much more than that and I do not recall (the poster) indicating where they had seen it.

I don’t see this surviving a cloture vote, and I do happen to know what one is. Even if this does get cloture, and it gets passed (another “if”), the House is where the action really is, and they aren’t taking this up this week.

"No matter what you think on the war - The American military is now a battle-tested force full of combat veterans...it is more ready to take on combat missions than anytime since WWII..."

Huh? By the end of the Vietnam War in 1973 there were 3.5 million Vietnam War veterans. And many Korean War veterans were still on active duty then as well. When I was training for Vietnam in 1968 my two toughest drill instructors were Korean War vets. For that matter, a great many WWII veterans were only in their forties during the Vietnam War, and some of them were still on active duty.

Not that any of this matters anyway, because a nation's military is only as strong as its political resolve and as deadly as the Commander in Chief is willing to let them be. And now, as during the Vietnam war, our nation is being run by weaklings who don't want to use our full military capabilities to defeat islamofacism. I include President Bush in that mix, because in the aftermath of 9-11 he had the full mandate to strike back and hit the enemy with an iron fist. The use of a strong international force and overwhelming military force, was Colin Powell's doctrine, (known as the "Powell Doctrine"). But Bush chose a limited warfare, listening to his civilian POLITICAL advisors like Rumsfeld and ignoring his generals. Powell was a civilian at the time, but was a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a brilliant general). But Powell's strategy was ignored. His requested number of troops was essentially halved by Bush. As everyone now knows, Powell became disgusted with the mismanagement of Iraq and was forced to leave.

Only now do we see Bush trying to smash down the enemy with his "surge". But it's a little late. He should have "surged" Iraq into a smoldering pile of rubble from day one, and installed a large occupation force when he had the means and the mandate. Our military STILL fights with one hand because of PC rules of engagement, too little manpower, and a faltering political will at home. It's true that the Rats want to sit on both hands of our military, by cutting and running, but my point is that the Republicans are becoming more and more like the Dims every day.

“and I do happen to know what one is”

If I offended you I didn’t mean to. I am a fairly well educated person and I did NOT know what it meant until I looked it up.

I hope you are correct!

Our Vietnam Army:
Full of Conscripts (we are now an all volunteer army)
Drug Problems rampant (none today)
Loss of discipline (had not happened today)
No morale (morale is extremely high in the army today)
Low education level (highest education level today)

etc.

I fail to see how Bush 41 "so screwed things up".

Bush 41 wanted to be buddies with the Dems, he raised taxes after pledging not to, and he signed gun control.

I believe it was Bush 41's adviser, Lee Atwater, who advised Bush 41 on conservatives "where are they going to go?"

After losing reelection to a Arkansas con man, Bush 41 knew that voters went 19% to Perot in a protest vote.

Yes, immigration really chaps people, not that I blame them. I have always thought Bush a “Rule of Law” type of person, but he really misses the boat on immigration, and his motivations are puzzling, and you do wonder who is pulling his strings.

But when he says crap like “squandered the good will of the world”, LeBoot sounds like Nancy Pelosi.

Illegal Immigration? The Senators, and unfortunately the President, have made the "law" in the United States a JOKE. That, incidentally, is how authoritarian (police state) governments work.
