POST FALLS, Idaho  —  Two home-schooled teenagers in this northern town say they are carrying loaded guns to the library, grocery store and other public areas for self-defense, as a crime deterrent, and to educate others about their rights.

, 18, carries a loaded on his hip. His 15-year-old brother, Steven, carries a in a sling on his back.

Police have been called on several occasions to question the teens but have not found the teens to be in violation of the law.

In Idaho, residents 18 and older can openly carry a firearm in public. And those ages 13 to 17 who have parental permission can carry a rifle in public.

Yet another reason I love my adopted home state...Idaho.

Every time I visit your fine State I am impressed by the incredible scenic grandeur as well as the exceptionally wonderful, kind, gracious and down-to-earth people.

“Bet it’s low...”

Well, in 2005 Idaho’s population was ranked at number 40 in the nation, and for all violent crime it is ranked at 41. Specifically, for murder & non-negligent manslaughter 41; robbery, a low 49; and motor vehicle theft 44. However, larceny/theft stands at 36; property crime 37; aggravated assault 31, and disturbingly, forcible rape at 13.

What’s the crime rate in Idaho? Bet it’s low...

I went to the US Department of Justice page where you can download zipped spreadsheets of state crime statistics

Bureau of Justice Statistics Spreadsheets - Crime & Justice Electronic Data Abstracts

....but when I unzipped the files, they are in a format unknown to Excel, it's a "WK1" file suffix, and I"m still playing around with it trying to get it to load.  I'm assuming that I have to change the filename to be recognized by Excel, but I'm not having any luck so far.

ANYHOW, my "good guess" for an answer to your question would be  "heck yes!"

I'll keep playing around with it and let you know if I can get it to load   :-)

Good for them! When I was growing up, my friends and I would go out goose hunting before school. We took our guns along to school and left them, unloaded in our unlocked vehicles, while we attended school. Never had a problem, no one ever bothered with them. Times have sure changed, and not for the better.

Sounds like a very idyllic time of our history, before everybody became terrified of being sued (and started taking Prozac).

“If I was an extremist, our founding fathers would all be extremists,” he said. “Without them, we wouldn’t have our independence. We’d be a disarmed British system of feudal subjectivity.”

Those kids have it exactly right. They are properly being raised. Indeed, our Founders were radicals for Liberty. I doubt most public schooling even mentions them in a positive light.

They sometimes show them in pictures, but fail to say anything in the text of news stories. The law forbids displaying them in a “threatening” manner, but darned if those low-lifes don’t look threatening in the pictures I’ve seen.

I'm sure that they look VERY threatening, just as they did in the 1960's.  I remember taking a tour through the local FBI offices sometime around the late sixties, and they had a poster of Huey Newton sitting in a rattan chair holding a rifle, as I recall.  I was a VERY young stoat at that time and it was pretty scary!

I think that the law's language hinges on 'creating a public disturbance" or something of that nature.  I would suggest that any angry, militant group that has professed a desire to overthrow the Government AND of 'hating whitey' is going to cause a pretty big disturbance, but political correctness allows them to get away with it and nobody else.

Thanks very much for your information, and if you happen to see one of those published photos around, I'm sure that everyone visiting this thread would like to see it.

One more example of why I love Idaho...and homeschoolers! :-)

I used to carry guns in my car everywhere, because I lived on a farm... the cops didn’t seem to care back then.

I've not yet had the opportunity to visit Washington, but from what I understand, it's a fine state...as long as one avoids SeaTac like the plague. I hear there's great hunting above Spokane, and I may make a scouting trip up there this summer.

Nonetheless, we're always looking to recruit good conservatives to dillute the Kalifornicators who can't stop flooding in. Should you decide you need a change of scenery, c'mon over to the Gem State...we need good, right thinking folks.

"How far do you think that you would be able to make it through town today?"

Yeah, especially with a name like SWAMPSNIPER!

LMAO!

And since stoats are frequently categorized as 'vermin' we aren't very welcome in many places either!

(perhaps I should change my brand of flea powder to be more appealing?)

I wonder what Free Republic’s Deputy Sheriff thinks about this? It seems to me that if you are ever in need of a posse, Idaho might be a good place to look for volunteers :-)

Hmmmm... I wonder what the crime rate is like in Post Falls.

I'm guessing that if any Crips or Bloods were to get it into their heads to do a 'drive-by' in Post Falls, that would be the last time that they would ever get to have a thought of any sort whatsoever.

"POST FALLS Idaho (AP)  A group of South-Central gang-bangers out looking for new "turf" in the idyllic city of Post Falls, Idaho got considerably more than they had expected when their car as well as their bodies were torn up beyond recognition from a hail of gunfire by residents who refused to be victims.  All occupants of the car were killed instantly.

Witness Adam Smith explains:  "We heard their car coming from blocks away, playing that awful 'rap' garbage, and when they got close we could see that they all had guns drawn and pointed out the windows.  We felt as though our lives were being immediately threatened, so we opened up on them.  Those Cali lowriders don't hold up to fifty-caliber rounds very well".

What few remains could be found are being sent back to South Central."

Even on Fox, the whole article is how threatening and unnecessary the carrying of firearms is.

I know, sorry about that  :-(  But I think that it could have been a lot worse....at least the basics of the information got out, despite it being an AP story.

But the last paragraph is worth the whole article:

“Zach said he’s not paranoid or a radical.”

“If I was an extremist, our founding fathers would all be extremists,” he said. “Without them, we wouldn’t have our independence. We’d be a disarmed British system of feudal subjectivity.”

Agreed...I'm glad that one slipped by the PC watchdogs at the AP  :-)

You answered your own question; no.

Normally I would have expected exactly that, but apparently there are at least pictures being published.  Please see post #13.
