Jimmy Carter at 2004 Democratic convention

The White House is firing back at former President Jimmy Carter, calling the Georgia Democrat "increasingly irrelevant" in the wake of his remarks labeling the Bush administration the "worst in history."

In an interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette yesterday, Carter was quoted as saying, "I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history."

White House spokesman Tony Fratto refused to respond yesterday, but launched a counterattack today from Crawford, Texas, explaining, "I think it's sad that President Carter's reckless personal criticism is out there."

"I think it's unfortunate," he added. "And I think he is proving to be increasingly irrelevant with these kinds of comments."

In the interview with the Arkansas paper, Carter said Bush had taken a "radical departure from all previous administration policies" with the Iraq war.

"We now have endorsed the concept of pre-emptive war where we go to war with another nation militarily, even though our own security is not directly threatened, if we want to change the regime there or if we fear that some time in the future our security might be endangered," Carter said.

In another interview with the BBC, Carter also ripped the close relationship between Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, calling it "Abominable. Loyal, blind, apparently subservient."

"I think that the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world," Carter said.

As WND previously reported, five years after the controversial 2000 presidential election, ex-President Jimmy Carter announced he was certain Al Gore actually defeated George W. Bush.

"Well I would say that in the year 2000, the country failed abysmally in the presidential election process," Carter told a panel at American University in Washington, D.C. "There's no doubt in my mind that Al Gore was elected president."

"[Gore] received the most votes nationwide, and in my opinion, he also received the most votes in Florida," Carter continued. "And the decision was made as you know by a 5-4 vote on a highly partisan basis by the U.S. Supreme Court, so I would say in 2000, there was a failure."

Carter was just trying to shift the “Worst President in History” mantle to someone else. Too bad, Jimma, I think it’s yours for at least another hundred years or so.

I do remember the News Media called Florida for Gore when only 1 percent of the votes had come in. I thought I didn’t see right

The Republican party was founded in 1854. A scant six years later it won the Presidency. What is it about politics today that prevents third party alternatives from achieving such high office?

Money, and the way it's funneled, or not funneled to the political process.

Bloomberg can run an effective third party campaign, just as Perot was able.

Bill Gates, he could give it a shot, as could Forbes or even Oprah.

While he wasn't my cup of tea, nor were his opinions, nor what the lead to, a bomber pilot by the name of McGovern did change the political landscape in 1968. Financed by a Ford scion as I recall, which was no secret.

Couldn't happen today, Mel Gibson can spend his money on a run for President, but not in support of, take your pick, whatever third party candidate.

As each piece of legislation passes, we become more and more entrenched in two parties. I'm sure that's an accident.

Should note again that the founding of the Republican Party in Ripon was 150 years ago. I'm not sure 3rd parties will emerge often, TR couldn't do it, but CFR does supress minority views.

IF Bush pushes Amnesty he will make Jimmy Carter look like Ronald Reagan.

Reagan did amnesty. It will be forgotten. If GWB is looking to it as a legacy builder, it will be forgotten. People don't value what they don't work for.

Long after carter is dead, I and others of my generation will continue to spread the true story that jimmy carter was and still is the worst president in U.S. history (lower case intentional 'cause he warrants no respect). He f'ed up the country real bad.

Every week the price of bread, milk, eggs and other essential items went up, what with double-digit inflation... while carter made it worse! We truly suffered under this idiot, and I cursed him and hope he will rot in hell. (Of course things got supremely better for my young family under President Reagan.)

It’s been said before but it’s due to Jimmy Carter that we are stuck with the Middle East the way it is now.

The man is a complete putz without any character and no ethics.

Jimmy, be a man, if you can, and own up to your complete and utter foreign policy failures during your reign.

"I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Just imagine, this from a President who, in the midst of a centuries long trend marking the global advance of democracy, oversaw the most extensive reversals of that trend of any modern President (excepting conquests lost but later regained in the world wars). A short list would have to include Afghanistan, Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, South Yemen, Libya, Syria, Aden, The Congo, Madagascar, The Seychelles, Nicaragua, and Grenada. And those were just the states where Soviet influence was secured or markedly avanced under Carter's watch. It doesn't even include states like Iran that went (more or less) independently rouge.

OTOH, you'd have to consider Carter a proven authority on being the WORST President in history.

Personally, I think this is being way too mean to all the “irrelevants” out there. Carter has to rise a bit to be called “irrelevant”.

How could Jimmah Carter become more irellevant? I think that would be impossible.

Carter is as ugly a stain on the American presidency as he is on the human gene pool. It’s obvious that Billy got the brains, the common sense and the good looks in that family. Jimmy should follow Billy’s example.

"[Gore] received the most votes nationwide,

Which has nothing at all to do with who becomes president.

And as to FL Jimmy. Your mind is one thing but reality is another.

If Carter had the good sense to shut up for a couple of years he may find that he isn’t considered the worst president of all time. His idiotic rantings keep him one notch below Bush. Maybe Bush has him on the payroll.

Mister Peanut is, as usual, wrong. The Florida results were certified and the SCOTUS had nothing to do with "choosing" the president.

I am very much pro-life, but if there was ever an argument for abortion, he would be it. If only I could go back in time.
