Congressman Heath Shuler to Senate: No Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants (sad when he get's it)

Office of Representative Heath Shuler Representing North Carolina’s Eleventh Congressional District For Immediate ReleaseMay 8, 2007Contact: Andrew Whalen, Communications Directoroffice: (202) 225-6401 / cell: (202) 731-5116 ________________________________________________________________________ Congressman Heath Shuler to Senate: No Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants Washington, D.C. – Representative Heath Shuler joined with several fellow members of Congress todayto urge the Senate to resist attempts to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. “This is an issue that Democrats and Republicans should stand together on,” said Rep. Shuler. “We should stand for the rule of law and what is right. We cannot, we must not, and we should not reward those who have broken the law.” “It is unfair to those who have gone through and are continuing to go through the process of legal immigration to grant amnesty and citizenship to those who have entered our country illegally,” Rep. Shuler continued. Published reports have indicated that members of the Senate are close to introducing an immigration billthat will contain amnesty for the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants now in the United States. Several of the Representatives present at today’s press conference have sent an open letter to Senators urging them to reject any such legislation. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee and main author of the letter, said, “We are here today to send a signal to the Senate that if they put forward this plan – we will call it what it is, ‘amnesty.’ Amnesty puts lawbreakers ahead of those who are law abiding, puts foreign workers ahead of American workers, and encourages even more illegal immigration.” Members present pointed to the amnesty offered to illegal immigrants in 1986 as evidence that amnestyonly encourages more illegal immigration. Reps. Shuler and Smith were joined at the press conference today by Homeland Security Ranking Member, Peter King (R-NY); Immigration Subcommittee Ranking Member, Steve King (R-IA); Immigration Reform Committee Chairman Brian Bilbray (R-CA); and Terrorism Subcommittee Ranking Member Ed Royce (R-CA). Rep. Shuler is a member of the Immigration Reform Caucus. The Immigration Reform Caucus is dedicated to identifying legislative solutions to address the issue of illegal immigration.###

I don't know if he's waiting for a better way or the fact Charles Taylor is waiting to challenge him again.

Ok I am hearing some good things but how will they actually VOTE on the bill? His Congressional leadership wants the bill bad. So is he going to go to DC and DO or is he just another Democrat who is SAYING one thing back home and doing something completely different in DC?

This is a good sign. This must be defeated.

I had a feeling he wasn’t a fake conservative Democrat. Make the vote count, Shuler.

Say what you want about the Rats in the house. They still realize they are 18 months away from losing their jobs. They are the most likely to listen to the public. It’s the senators that don’t listen. How different is this garbage legislation from the one the house defeated 2 years ago?

The last best hope is Democrats House members who are scared to death of losing their seats in the next election. As far as Republicans goes, a vote for Bush was a vote for Vincente Fox.

To me, it doesn't matter what anybody in congress says or does at this point.

My confidence in that branch of government is less than zero.

Members of congress can grandstand all they want but the writing is on the wall. They and the president are the enemy.

I no longer recognize their legitimacy.

Shuler is trying to assure his re-election in 2008. If he follows through, this is quite likely to do the trick.

Why can’t we put this up for a vote by the American citizens. Let us decide on this bill. Farmers Branch Texas is just a small sample of how a nationwide vote would go on this.

Heres a good idea
El Presidente Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use. The best way to
Stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigration the number is probably between 25-30 million.
That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down.
Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an illegal immigrant Crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the military. Give him a soldier’s pay while he’s there and tax him on it. After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot. This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves. If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo. Problem solved.

It would have to be done as a non-binding resolution in various municipalities, much like the “End The War” and “Impeach Bush” referendums the donks orchestrated.

It would take a lot of work, mean nothing and give the media headlines like:”Republicans Tell Bush to Drop Dead”.

Keeping the pressure on the Representatives and on those Senators up for reelection in 08 is the best way to go, IMO. Withholding all funds from everyone from the RNC to individual candidates is another, but we have to also be supporting every Representative and Senator who takes a stand against amnesty and against selling us out as a nation.

Third parties don’t work in America, IMO, but financing conservative candidates to challenge every traitor in the primaries would work to keep the attention on the issue and to thwart the MSM spin.

Further actions could be organized to boycott and demonstrate against every large employer who is supporting this. In Sanctuary Cities, lawsuits against the city would get publicity, but those are very expensive.

Convincing everyone you know that they are going to hosed by this in terms of increased taxes, lowered salaries, job preferences for the *new citizens* and less national security is important, as well.

If this goes through, perhaps people will leave the blue states and large cities, move to the much less expensive Heartland, work for less, thereby paying less in taxes to support this government and generally committing themselves to a simpler lifestyle that starves the government of money. The donks have been doing this for decades and it has worked for them.

All that said, I doubt most people have this depth of commitment.

"Why can’t we put this up for a vote by the American citizens."

There's no legal provision for that.

And even if there was, the federal government would not abide by the results.

They already know that ~70% of Americans don't like the invasion of illegals.

They don't care.

They consider themselves our rulers, not our servants.
