AEGIS VESSELS OF THE WORLD
JEFFHEAD.COM ^ | May 19, 2007 | Jeff Head

Posted on 05/19/2007 6:29:24 PM PDT by Jeff Head

I get a LOT of questions about AEGIS systems and how the other navies of the world are stacking up in their development efforts, and purchasing efforts (because four other countries have purchased the technology from us) to match our US Navy's outstanding capabilities.

So, I created a site that presents and analyzes the various vessels out there. Hope the FReeper military community and others who may be interested, enjoy it.

Just click on the linked logo below:

This site is meant to go along with my:

World Wide Aircraft Carriers Site

We find out in July if the RAN’s new Air Warfare Destroyers will be Baby Burke’s or F100’s. The RAN wants Baby Burke (larger margin for growth, more VLS, 2 helos) while the accountants want F100.

We also find out if we get the stretched (or ‘Australianised’) Mistral or the Navantia BPE for our LHD contract.

The RAN would love Baby Burke’s and BPE’s. We’ll see if they win over the politicians soon enough.

I hope you get the more capable in both departments my friend. I will tell you, the ROK's new AEGIS vessel is simply awesome. They did it right and are going to build three for sure, maybe six.

Those new Japanese Atago AEGIS vessels are no slouches either...they just do not carry the offensive punch that the Korean vessels will carry. 32 SLCMs, 16 ASMs, and 32 Torpedoes...along with a dedicated AAW 80 cell MK-41, a 21 cell RAM, and two helos.

The BPE is definately the better way to go IMHO...built on the earlier Sea Control model, the RAN would get a much better chance to get back their NAval Air Arm with F-35s.

Thanks for checking in and God's speed to you down there!

I’m always interested. Father in law 90 years young married for the third time just recently, having outlived the other two, and a thirty year Navy man. Serving on everything from a 100 foot boat during early WWII to Aircraft carriers in the Korean conflict. The stories we never tire of, and he has some good ones.

Without a Navy, where would we be? What would be our future in a global world. Really Vulnerable comes to mind. Our sailors and their ships, are just as important, as the other 4 branches of military might. Thanks again for keeping us up to date.

The Japanese sold all the AEGIS software to the Chicoms. Does anyone think the Chicoms will be able to defeat the AEGIS systems much more easily?
