My late Grandfather came to the US legally in the early 1930s from Poland, and back in Poland, he never knew his "birthday." When he was naturalized (which he always said was his proudest moment), he was so proud, he decided to take February 22, George Washington's birthday, as his own, to celebrate for the rest of his life.
