the administration called for the provision to be removed due to concern that it would be too difficult to figure out which illegal immigrants owed back taxes...

Oh, they'll get that money. They'll use the AHH system of estimation. You know, arbitrary and high-handed. Positively no need for accuracy. Pay what we tell you, or go to jail. Works for everybody else!

"Determining the past tax liability would have been very difficult and costly and extremely time consuming."

Oh gosh, they have no time to figure it out.

Probably because they’re spending so much time auditing American citizens for pennies owed on a possible tax mistake.

Oh yeah, BTW we’re screwed. I never expected them to do this the right way and protect those of us who worked all our lives to provide our families with a good future.

I have finally got it through my head that people from other countries who break the law have more rights than I do.

Well, maybe it would be too difficult for them, after all there are parties and playtime waiting for them soon and the illegals get paid cash anyway.

You prefer that the illegal aliens be permanently illegal? Or do you envision putting 20 million people on railroad boxcars bound for the Mexican border? Get real.

Where can I read the text to see it?

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/thomas

Search for S1348. Hotlinking does not seem to work. This is the original form of the bill.

The provision for back taxes is IN the bill.

Can you substantiate this?

Does each illegal immigrant also get 10 acres and a mule?

Make that ten acres and a burro.

President Bush and the democrats are trying to bring in an amnesty program that will effectively destroy America’s sovereignty and destroy our economy. Worst of all, I believe they know it but are arrogant and foolish and self deceived idiots.

My link in #45 does not work either. One can go to the Library of Congress site then navigate to “Thomas”. Then search for S1348. As I mentioned this is the original form of the bill.

[ Or do you envision putting 20 million people...]

I believe there are some 40 million illigal immigrants now living in America and the new amnesty Bush-Kennedy amnesty program will bring that number to some 120 million illegal immigrants becoming american citizens overnight.
America has been destroyed by ruthless and cruel politicians who hate Americans and love power.

I have an answer!

For each year an illegal was here in the past, they should pay double taxes for a year in the future.

Simple, no need to look up their past tax documentation.

Just from Bush's actions alone you can tell he favors Mexico. What I didn't quite know is how far he would go to support this illegal immmigration issue. It's sad and maddening at the same time. The hints and tendencies of moderation he's shown have come to full bore. He's a moderate and moderates have taken the reigns of the republican party!

As soon as I saw Bush embrace Ted Kennedy in 2001 I knew something was up beside "compassionate conservatism." Somehow Bush has equated an active show of lovey-dovey compassion with hoping to garner respect from those who first, don't understand true compassion, and second don't care about anything else but obtaining their own selfish power! Now I won't sit here and fault Bush for trying to be caring to mankind, but it is a false premise to think if you show compassion to those who hate you, you will garner respect. Remember, Jesus even said, show compassion to those who hate you because it will be like heaping a pile of coals on their head! I think this is where Bush gets his false compassion from, but this doesn't mean he neccesssarily understands (maybe I don't either)what true compassion really is, and when to use it! Moderate, compromising stances are not "compassion," they're more than often, just plain stupid!

Moderates are losers, by their very nature. They live on false premises and shallow victories. Bush is true to his values and ways, so I don't fault him for standing on his principles, but he's simply a moderate that's wrong! Like most moderates.

How do conservatives get their party back?

Before this bill woke me up, I bought into that logic - that we couldn't deport millions of people. This cost of this new set of laws is going to be $2.4 trillion dollars and we'll have the same problem in 10 years plus the dilution of America with 100 million previously illegal immigrants who's first taste of citizenship is being pardoned for their crime.

If we're going that far, why don't we just get it right?

How much are we spending on Iraq reconstruction? When that's done, bring our forces and funds here and focus on the border for 5-10 years. We could easily build a wall and have the technology to keep people from violating the border. It's only a question of will.

Illegals never earn enough money to pay income tax. This is all about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), by which the Federal Government would square "back taxes" by PAYING the illegal THOUSANDS of dollars.

EITC is probably how Kennedy figured the illegals would "pay" their $5000 "fine" for the Z Visa.

Jorge Arbusto is the worst Republican president of my lifetime and it isn’t even close. And to think I was actually fooled into thinking he was a conservative at one point. He isn’t. He’s a flaming RINO who would fit well on the other side of the aisle. This administration has been horrible on the borders, horrible on spending, and spectacular at creating new entitlements. You’ve also seen a lot of crony politics with folks like Alberto, Harriet, and Mike Brown appointed to positions they have no business holding. And an amazing ability to retreat in the face of dems.

You may have already seen this- but here is an exchange between Chertoff and a reporter from the press conf the other day- sums up the twilight zone pretty well: law-abiding-illegal.

Q If you’re a law-abiding illegal worker in this country, you pay $1,000 and work here for eight more years —

SECRETARY CHERTOFF: Correct. And you actually could work further than that. You don’t have to get a green card.

SECRETARY GUTIERREZ: Did you say law-abiding legal?

Q Illegal.

Q Because we’re not —

Q Law-abiding illegal — law-abiding —

SECRETARY GUTIERREZ: They will be legal.

Q It starts to sound like amnesty, is what I’m getting at. It’s an eight-year, nine-year amnesty program. And then at the end of that, you’ve got to go, assuming you can find them at the workplace. Is that how it works?
