In Rudy's heart & on payroll; Judith Giuliani got $125G to craft speeches (gives Rudy "pointers")
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS ^ | Friday, May 18th 2007 | DAVID SALTONSTALL DAILY NEWS SENIOR CORRESPONDENT

She does more than smile for him - Rudy Giuliani paid Judith Nathan $125,000 a year for speechwriting.

Being Mrs. Rudy Giuliani can't be easy, but at least it pays well - about $10,000 a month. A day after the former mayor disclosed in federal filings that he considers his third wife, Judith, a salaried employee, sources said he has paid her about $125,000 a year for speechwriting help - since before they were married. The tidy sums, which the couple have always reported as income on their joint tax returns, was for speech-writing help and the many days Judith spent traveling with her husband to paid engagements around the globe. "Mrs. Giuliani made a professional contribution and the mayor recognizes and respects her efforts," one aide said. "He is merely acknowledging both her time commitment and her professional value."

Rudy Giuliani's haul for the 126 speeches he gave from January 2006 to March 2007 was $11.4 million, records filed this week show, which means he kicked back something less than 2% to his wife over that period. But with Giuliani running hard for the Republican presidential nomination, he has stopped accepting money for his talks - and Judith is no longer getting a paycheck, aides said. They added, however, that Judith had been getting paid for her time and expertise since shortly before the couple wed in 2003, when Giuliani hit the lecture circuit in earnest. "It's an arrangement that started before they were married," said one insider. "And he pays taxes on it."

That Judith has long been a member of her husband's traveling entourage is no secret. She can often be seen glued to his side, and the former mayor's standard contract with the Washington Speakers Bureau stated explicitly that Judith "must be seated directly next to" her husband if she is present. Aides said that was so Judith - a former sales executive at Bristol-Myers Squibb and former managing director at Changing Our World Inc., a for-profit consulting firm - could give her husband pointers. There is no suggestion of any illegality in the arrangement, but the idea of a husband paying his wife for services that many political spouses would take for granted is sure to raise some eyebrows.

"It just looks odd," said Republican strategist Nelson Warfield, a regular Giuliani critic. "Most spouses view supporting their significant others as part of the package, not part of the compensation package." "Some people will joke and ask, 'Is it a straight salary or is there a performance bonus?'" added Warfield.

Beyond that, it is likely to feed perceptions that Giuliani's private life - as his own mayoral campaign called it in an internal 1993 memo - contains a certain "weirdness factor." That now includes a first marriage to his second cousin, a very public split with his second wife, and two children ages 17 and 21 who are said to be estranged from him. "Maybe this will help this marriage last, since he's made it a job as well as a position in life," said University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato. "Maybe he's found a new approach."

Why don’t you tell us again how you didn’t really care all that much at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Giuliani To Media: Lay Off My Wife

(CBS) NEW YORK The former New York City mayor is fending off increased media scrutiny of his third wife -- the former Judith Nathan. Rudy is now asking the media to back off "Attack me all you want," Giuliani said. "There's plenty to attack me about. Please do it. But maybe, you know, show a little decency." That's a tough sell for a man who suggested he might invite his wife into cabinet meetings.

Actually, I don't think most people do. We're still off crusading in Iraq for some reason that few Americans can explain while failing to finish the job in Afghanistan. And Pakistan, almost certainly the hiding place of Osama, remains untouched.

You tell me exactly how America is really that concerned about 9/11 and getting the perpetrator. The Saudi complicity remains unpunished as does the Paki spreading of nuclear weapons technology and harboring Osama.

BLAB-FOR-BUCKS RUDY A HIGH-FLYING 'DIVA' (president no; dictator yes)
By IAN BISHOP, Post Correspondent February 17, 2007 -

WASHINGTON - Rudy Giuliani makes a slew of diva-like demands when he's on the big-money celebrity speaking circuit, requiring use of a "Gulfstream IV [jet] or bigger," a hotel suite with a balcony, and no flash photography, according to documents released yesterday. Giuliani, a 2008 Republican presidential hopeful who racks up as much as $100,000 per speech, fastidiously lays out his requirements in an agreement that any organization that enlists him must sign.

The former mayor insists his client, usually a corporation or academic institution, foot the tab for first-class travel, accommodations and meals on top of his speaking fees. The demands - laid out in 18 detailed bullet points - were disclosed yesterday on The Smoking Gun Web site, which obtained Giuliani's elaborate requirements from his March 2006 speaking contract with Oklahoma State University. The contract stipulates that "private aircraft MUST BE a Gulfstream IV or bigger" to fly Giuliani from New York City to the event site and back.

The plane must have two engines and two pilots - who must fork over their cellphone numbers, dates of birth and Social Security numbers for Giuliani's security team to run background checks. If the organization can't get a private jet, it is required to "provide Mr. Giuliani with first-class travel expenses for up to five people."

Once on the ground, the tough-talking former mayor needs a "large two-bedroom, non-smoking hotel suite with a king-size bed, on an upper floor, with a balcony and view" - all registered in the name of an agent representing him at the Washington Speakers Bureau. The client also has to spring for four more rooms, including the rooms on either side of Giuliani's suite for security personnel.

And when traveling in the United States, Giuliani's client has to rent a large sedan and an SUV - and he needs an extra van "for luggage" when making speeches overseas. As with the pilots, drivers have to serve up their personal information "no less than one week in advance" to Giuliani's security team. The drivers "must be fluent in English."

When the lights finally go up on the speech, the image-conscious Giuliani prohibits the use of "direct, on-camera flashbulbs" and refuses to allow candid photos. But "he is happy to participate in a re ceiving-line photo opportunity," so long as opportunities "not ex ceed 50 photos." Spotlights are a no-no; Giuliani insists on having the house lights turned on "so he can see the audience." Press is strictly forbid den at his speeches - "other than print cover age by trade press." To ensure his one-hour talks don't run long, Giuliani "requests that a running clock be placed on the podium so that he may discreetly keep track of the timing." And if a meal is served before or after his speech, Giuliani's wife, Judith, "must be seated directly next to him." His campaign spokeswoman, Katie Levinson, did not respond to The Post's request for comment.

Now you tell me that you are in the MAGORITY with other Americans regarding indifference to 9/11? And the reason is because we botched the job in Afghanistan? That’s a sea water change! You used to say no one cared about 9/11 because it happened to NY.

Harboring Osama? The Pakistani Intelligence service is Al Qaeda! Soon enough they’ll succeed, and Musharraf will be dead. The libs think it’s bad now. They have no conception of what The Long War is going to become.

9/11, maybe. Iraq, certainly. Few serious people still believe that Saddam played any, or at least significant, role in 9/11.

More people care about their Playstation 3 than care about Iraq. It's still a guns-and-butter war. Those types of wars are never truly supported by the people. A real war is when Congress declares it, austerity measures are implemented, you use the draft, etc. to accomplish your war aims.

You used to say no one cared about 9/11 because it happened to NY.

Well, that too. Actually, if they'd hit the United Nations, there would have been considerable support. LOL.

The Pakistani Intelligence service is Al Qaeda!

I think it's a mixed bag with Paki intel. Certainly, it appears that way at times. At others, Musharraf seems to have a loyal segment. As outsiders, I think we have no good way to know for certain.

But clearly, once the benevolent dicatator is gone, Pakistan could be a major challenge in the region, being currently the only nuclear Muslim regime. And it is a fundamentalist Muslim regime, much like Iran. Were it not for their fears of India, they would not be our allies.

During 9/11 I lived at 43rd & 2nd Avenue. Since I doubt you live in NY, that is one block from the U.N. I’m not laughing. I think you have a heart of stone.

Humorless troll.

You'd better be patient if you're waiting for me to say anything nice about the U.N.

Thats what I thought it is just not considered as we would say in Britain “cricket” to do so.

This was the end of Iain Duncan Smith’s leadership of the Conservative Party when it was known that his wife had received payment for duties that would normally be considered if she was prepared to do them as volunteer work not paid work.

It may not seem fair but that is what is expected if you are married to someone in high public office.

Women who consort with married men NEVER get any respect from me. That is a fundamental character flaw, and indicates a complete lack of a moral center. That goes for the creepy guy, too.

Merciless mocking is completely understandable.

Big deal. He gets paid for speeches and he pays her a salary out of it. These aren't campaign funds, they're private speaking fees, which he doesn't take anymore now that he's running.

Rudy-haters are just pa-the-tic.

Personally, I have no problem with it, if she actually did the work to earn it.

But, his speeches stink, so...
