**THERE IS STILL NO BILL : (VIA) REDSTATE**
RedState.org ^ | 5/17/2007 | Erick from Redstate

Posted on 05/17/2007 11:07:29 PM PDT by Cyropaedia

Multiple Senate sources tell RedState that there is no actual immigration bill.

Contrary to earlier reports originating with Senator Kennedy, no bill presently exists and probably won't until tomorrow at the earliest. The lawyers are still behind closed doors putting it together.

Most troubling, Senate sources tell RedState that the bill probably will not be online in its final form until *after* the Senate has voted on it.

You got that..?? The bill probably will not be online in its final form until *after* the Senate has voted on it!! That means there is still a bunch stuff buried in the fine print that they reallly don't want people to see!!

This is a travesty....

Many Republicans will not be returning to Congress in 2008, it would appear.

There should be a law against hiding the text of proposed laws from the public....

This is unbelievable. Is Bush going to know what is in it, or is he going to just trust his good buddies McCain and Kennedy?

I'm starting to think I woke up this morning in an alternate universe!

I’m completely baffled by this fiasco. I don’t care how many “conservative” mandated concessions got put into this thing, at the end of the day, it’s still amnesty for people who willingly and blatanly broke the law and completely screws over the people who properly wait their turn to get into this country.

McCain has just written his own obituary in this race. I had almost convinced myself that I could begrudgingly vote for him if he got the nomination rather than face Hillary, but this is the last straw. He’s sold his soul on so many issues, but this was a blatant slap to law-abiding citizens. He sucks and I don’t want that man anywhere near the White House—even if it means getting the Hildebeast.

Unfortunately Sen. Hutchison will probably support whatever immigration bill is sent to the Senate floor. I heard her throw in a line about needing to pass immigration reform legislation in her current stock speech.

Guys we have got to flood the Senate. I have already made a phone call to the RNC. I have also emailed 6 Republican RINOS. Basically saying, “No to Amnesty....we are voting you out....”

If you listened carefully last night, you could sense that was the case... but they never came out and stated it that way. The DBM is gung-ho for amnesty... or anything else that will destroy the Republic. They’ll be the last ones to ever tell the sheeple the truth.

Oh, I’ve seen this trick before.

This is vintage Harry Reid.

You folks who are just getting to know Dusty Harry from the one-whore town of Searchlight, NV, haven’t seen this tactic before. We here in Nevada have, especially when Harry wants to cut a land deal. Harry would wait until the closing hours of a Congressional session, then slip in some legislation that you couldn’t see online (or anywhere else), call for a voice vote, get it passed, then have some people in the House slip it in as a rider onto some other last-minute measure and wha-la, we’d end up with a new “wilderness area”, the boundaries of which were set after the end of the session of Congress — like weeks later.

This is how the Black Rock Desert was put off-limits, for starters.

The last-minute voice vote with suspended rules is another of Harry’s classic tricks. This way, there is no indication as to how many people were there, who voted for it, etc.

So what is “Dusty” doing, here? Testing the phone lines of Washington?

What a scumbag.

Votes held by “voice” are by ‘acclamation’ - ie, the side that shouts the loudest wins the votes. There is no roll call taken unless one is called for.

If you want to see how many of these UN treaties are passed in the Senate, you’ll see that the same tactics are used. Suspended rules, voice vote by acclamation, no roll call.

So far, Dusty ain’t directly involved. He’s claiming in the Nevada press that he has “concerns” about the bill in present form. This is Harry-speak for “I’m going to get splinters up my ass until I decide which side of the fence looks better.” Again, another tried-n-true Harry Reid tactic.

I’m absolutely certain that Harry is and has been involved behind the scenes. Harry is still new in the majority leadership role, and I think this is going to be the first time he will hear genuine wrath from voters. I’ve personally met Harry several times in several different circumstances here in Nevada and he is a guy who doesn’t like direct confrontation. He won’t stab you in the back directly, he’s the type to chat amiably with you while someone he has hired puts the shiv into your back for him. When people try to back Harry into a corner, he will mumble some weasel words to gain his escape and then slink away. The guy just ain’t a “stand toe-to-toe and slug it out” kind of pol.

In this particular situation, Harry can’t get away from the controversy; he’s the guy in the hot seat as leader. I rather suspect that he’s going to get dragged onto the coals on radio shows in both Vegas and Reno (Harry is good about being on talk radio here in NV) and there is where he will start getting an inkling of how pissed off people are.

I’m not going to waste my time writing to Reid. John Ensign, on the other hand, it going to feel my wrath. John has been spending far too much time packin’ water for Harry so far this year, and it is high time John get the message that we didn’t send him to DC to be Harry’s cabana boy.

Saw his name as a co-sponsor.

For some reason, intuitively, I think he’ll kill the thing himself (after tomorrow, over the weekend) when the fecal rain peaks tomorrow.

Of course, his public populist-sounding pronouncement will be entirely nauseating. But a Win is a Win, I guess. Who gets the “Save”, here?
