Hunter's good at spending money too.
“With this bill, the American people are going to think they are being sold the same bill of goods as before on border security. We should scrap this bill and the whole debate until we can convince the American people that we have secured the borders or at least have made great headway.”
Maybe Fred has heard the call. I hope so.
Perhaps if you took the liberty to read some of Thompson's essays or FR threads on Thompson instead of waiting to get fed like a newborn bird with its mouth open, you'd know where Thompson stand on the issues.
Yeah, I do want to hear how he’d like the border secured. Hunter is as plain as day and has acted on it consistently.
He sure is. More money for Border Patrol, for the fence along the mezcan border he got signed into law, for more divisions of Army and Marines, for more human intel officers, for better vets benefits, and for nuclear bunker busters, space wepaonry. In fact he wants to increase the defense budget to 6% GDP.
As I’ve posted before, I wish Fred Thompson were a little further to the right on this issue. He has been saying good things about enforcing the borders, but he has said NOTHING about what he will do with the illegal aliens who are already here - they are the primary cause of violent crimes in border states, they are draining resources from our social programs, they are putting doctors and hospitals out of business (since they are forced by the government to treat these people for free), and they are taking jobs away from hard-working, low-skilled Americans (every time Bush say “jobs Americans won’t do”, I want to barf). I’m pretty much a Fredhead at this point, but this one issue sticks pretty hard in my craw.
Fred is also a member of the CFR, unfortunately. So there is also the possibility that he is yet another one-worlder RINO (like the Bushes) in conservative clothing. Let’s hope not. Still, he is a whole lot more palatable to me than Rudy McRomney.
Duncan Hunter has spent the past many years as author of many bills, etc and working against illegals and getting the fence started and bill signed to continue.
and speaking out on these issues
Tancredo mostly speaks about, not even close to the actual work Hunter has been doing for many many years.
Thompson is savvy enough to know that the grassroots will not tolerate Amnesty.
Perhaps he will address it concisely soon. Hunter says no way to any amnesty.
That's all nice but things such as his ignoring the entitlement programs and voting in favor of Bush's Part D program (FReeper disclosure, I work part-time answering calls for the program) and No Child Left Behind doesn't exactly make him a fiscal conservative.
Personally, I like Fred but he is too much an insider in DC. I think we need someone from outside and not the same old business as usual. BTW, the outsider I favor is Romney.
Except that his lifetime rating by the ACU of 92 means he’s not a money waster either. He also has the highest conservative rating of any candidate, including Fred, from the National Journal.
Hunter wants to slash the Dept of Education, BTW. And is a proponent of the Fair Tax or similar drastic simplification.
Side by side in a debate. Romney would clean Fred’s clock. He is too slow and deliberate. He also represents the status quo. We need some fresh ideas in DC, not a rehash of the same old players.
I’ll take Fred over Mitt, based on their past records. Mitt has hurt his back flipping and flopping, including on this Amnesty bill. He was 110% behind it a couple short years ago.
Obviously, it hasn't worked that well, IIRC. Which is why Duncan Hunter said he supports the bill by some Congressmen (see the session here. I forget the particular Congressman's name.) that would enable the state and local governments to have control over education so long as they meet NCLB accountability standards.
Not pretending that the man is perfect, but he's far better than the others.
I’d like to hear Fred’s feelings on this NOW, and not how he has felt about it over the years. It should be obvious to anyone that much has happened on this issue in the last few months, and I’m sure many will be watching.
In a one on one debate with Hunter, Duncan would chew mitt into little pieces.
A lot of people were behind it that changed their minds later. That is politics.
