Senate offices overwhelmed by your calls ... Some more things to do before Monday vote | ||||
"This morning I called Sen. Kyl's office both in Washigton, DC, and in Phoenix. In both cases a recording said, "Sen. Kyl's mailbox is full." I also called Sen. McCain's office in Washington, and received the same response. It's no wonder that senators say they are NOT receiving phone calls from their constituents. What can we do? I'd like to go to congress and knock on their door, but I know that will not work either. What a convenient escape mechanism our legislators have crafted!" ----------M. Horton FRIENDS, IT'S TIME TO KNOCK ON SOME DOORS! Actually, M. Horton, knocking on some Senate doors can work. And all the phone calling and faxing is helping, too. Every thing adds up. Thanks to all of you who have absolutely swamped Senate offices today. We cannot let up -- we must increase the pressure. Whether we kill this bill in the Senate (a remote possibility) or the House (50-50 chance) depends in part on how hard we fight over these next few days. It will be much easier to win in the House, for example, if we can get at least a third of the Senate voting against this -- and especially if the majority of Republicans (25) vote NO. Please read this email carefully and decide whether you can do more work Friday and through Monday. Most of your Senators will be home in your state tonight through Monday afternoon. They need to encounter resistance to this amnesty at every turn. If you live near one of the offices of your state's Senators, please consider going to it tomorrow (see below). And keep phoning. In the Senate offices of some of the largest states, you all have shut down the phone lines so that staffers aren't able to communicate with anybody because of their decision to turn off their phones to avoid hearing from you. But all phones will be back up by tomorrow! if not later today. "We need to let everyone know just how very, very easy it is to call their Senators and Congressmen/women. You don't even have to leave your name unless you really want to. The main thing is to call and state how you feel. They aren't going to bite you or send the FBI after you. I think that most people are just scared to call." ----------Keith McCloud "I called my two Senators this morning requesting they reject amnesty, guest worker programme and please - enforce our laws. I was thanked for message and all they asked for was my zip code. ---------SAJ PHONE THE LOCAL OFFICES, TOO -- and also your U.S. Rep. You can get all the phone numbers for all members of Congress at: www.numbersusa.com/congressinfo/ You will want to express your outrage about this bill and encourage a NO vote from your two Senators. But you will also want to call the office of your U.S. Representative to put him/her on notice that you expect a NO vote when this comes to the House. Phone once. Then hit the streets with our pitchforks. THAT might get their attention.
*Might*
This reminds me, a little, of what the Clinton Press Sec used to do: only release anything controversial or offensive on a Friday, letting the news cycle kill the story.
Cynical beyond belief, and our Senate just did it again today.
My Sens and Congressman are all leftists, so calling them won’t do much good. I’m working online with the GOP Presidential campaigns. Whoever gets out front of this first is going to see a big spike.
I never understood how teaching the GOP a lesson in 2006 on the illegal immigration issue would mean staying home, allowing Democrats to control the House thus creating the condition for amnesty to become reality.
The time to vote came and passed and the stupid punished the wrong Republicans.
Enjoy amnesty.
Even if your Senator and Rep. opposes this Bill call them and support their opposition.
I live in PA.....I would call, But Spector is too busy studying Scottish Law Books and Casey isnt allowed to talk on the phone without an adult in the room...
Emails to my TX senators and rep. Also tried to email McConnell’s office...His server must be buckling under the weight of emails coming in. It took over an hour to get the server to accept the email.
That’s a terrific thread, starting with your personal story. I’m pinging another irate immigrant. I think Naturalized/Resident Aliens en masse could tip some scales.
Of course, I’m a cynical optimist.
I’m rooting for you guys, make those calls.Ted Kennedy and John Kerry are my Senators so I’m saving my quarter !!!
Well then, call someone else’s :’)
Specter and Casey, Huh? They are almost as bad as mine. I hope your Rep. is someone with a modicum of sense? P.S. Doesn't the guy above look like John Edwards? It's the hair, don't you think.
“I live in PA.....I would call, But Spector is too busy studying Scottish Law Books and Casey isnt allowed to talk on the phone without an adult in the room...”
Spector’s comment about this not being an amnesty was as fraudulent as Bush’s.
At least McCain calls it an amnesty - or has in the past, “earned amnesty.”
Ha,ha,ok but they usually like to hear from people who can actually vote for them !!!
If you remember right before the election, all we heard about was Abramhoff and Mark Foley. The illegal alien stuff was really not on the radar.

ALSO - in ADDITION to NumbersUSA fax - do this:
CALL THE SENATE FRIDAY - burn up the lines.
Your Senators - even if they are Dims!
Plus Republican leaders - Mitch McConnell, Jon Kyl, Jeff Sessions, John Cornyn - all of whom have been against illegal immigration in the past, and are leading efforts now - let them know you want them to hold firm.
And dont forget McCain - give him an earful.
TOLL FREE: 1-888-534-6226
DO IT! ITS OUR LAST CHANCE!
(if indeed we have one anymore...)
I’m burning up the phone lines and the fax lines and the e-mail and anything else I can do. While you’re at it, spread the word by e-mail to everyone that you can.
