The Santa Fe Police Department is looking at the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals to fill vacancies on the city police force, say sergeants in charge of training and recruiting.
Sgts. Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk told the city's Public Safety Committee on Tuesday that they are trying to think outside the box to fill 20 vacancies on the 155-person force.
New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations currently prohibit noncitizens from serving as police officers, Police Chief Eric Johnson said later.
Alessio told the city panel: ``Every day, we get approached by young men and women from Mexico who are in the country legally but are not naturalized. There is a huge pool of people who are dedicated, hard-working and trying to become citizens of this country. They would like nothing better than to devote their time to protecting the communities that they live in.''
Some cities in other states already hire noncitizens as police officers.
Both the city of Santa Fe and the state of New Mexico have policies against police officers trying to enforce federal immigration laws.

Why don’t they simplify things and declare their city part of Mexico. All doubt would then be removed.
The SantaFe police chief and the city council should be arrested immediately. Filthy rotten bastards.
This is sad. Sad for America. Just making the problem worse. And who will these “employees” be loyal to? Other non-citizen Mexicans? Another Pandora’s box thanks to the pro-illegal immigration mob that is ruining this country, its system of laws, its borders, its soverignty, its citizenship, and its national security -—
WHEN DOES THE INSANITY STOP ??
Not.
hey if it brings the extreme integrity and sense of duty Mexican police forces are noted for world-wide, I’m all for it.
I know. With every passing day, it seems there is something that drives a stake in the heart of those who love Liberty and wish our Republic saved. When these traitors in Congress(both parties) ram this bill through, they will be all smiles on TV, telling us how "great this bill will be for America." At that point, I will through a brick through the screen! We are witnessing the death knell for America if this passes.
OK, I get that Santa Fe is looking to add hispanic officers to its police roster. But do they expect anyone to believe that in Santa Fe, in New Mexico, there are no hispanic americans at all, who might be interested in the job?
Really?
States should ban this in their constitutions.
It's going to be a very bloody civil war.
We are witnessing the death knell for America if this passes.

I never thought that I would see a government that would operate totally to ITS OWN SATISFACTION with total disregard for the American citizen and the overall integrity of our country. The government is OUT OF CONTROL like a runaway train. The government can no longer be trusted -— and that is a serious condemnation.
They are just taking their Que from those in D.C. as they get ready to legalize 30 million illegal aliens.
My poor babies!
4 million people in the bay area and they have to go to foreign nationals to fill 20 vacancies? Hmmm Doesn’t pass the smell test.
“Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull,
From the Grand Coulee Dam to the Capitol.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You’re an idiot, babe.
It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe.”
Bob Dylan
We are witnessing the death knell for America if this passes.”
The death knell for America rang already. All we are hearing now are the echoes.
No government can EVER be trusted. Listen to George Washington.
These aren't "jobs Americans won't do," they're jobs THEY DON'T WANT Americans to do! It's hard to be outraged more than I am already without being just plain tuckered out!
