Immigration Deal Would Grant Amnesty to Parents, Spouses and Children
Red State ^ | May 16, 2007

Posted on 05/16/2007 2:33:23 PM PDT by BradtotheBone

UPDATE: Six conservative senators are demanding that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R.-Ky.) negotiate a “full and open debate” on the immigration legislation.

Senate Democrats and Republicans are working feverishly with the White House to put the finishing touches on an immigration proposal that could be announced later today or tomorrow. The deal would give illegal aliens living in the United States amnesty, according to confidential sources. It would also allow illegal aliens to bring their parents, spouses and children into the United States.

Multiple sources on Capitol Hill with knowledge of the proposal said Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) has been able to extract significant concessions from Republicans. The critical part of the deal is a lengthy section that spells out the provisions related to “Z” visas -- or what my sources described as the “Amnesty Title” of the bill. The “Z” visas would be broken down into three categories as follows:

Z-1 -- Illegal alien present and working in the United States up to January 1, 2007 Z-2 -- Parents and spouses of illegal aliens qualifying under the Z-1 category Z-3 -- Children of illegal aliens qualifying under the Z-1 category

Read on ...

One section of the proposal grants these “Z” non-immigrants four-year visas for an indefinite period of time. These visas would be given to people not currently in the United States if they are related to a current illegal worker.

Sources indicate that these aliens, along with their dependents, would be allowed to legally remain in the United States under certain conditions for an indefinite period of time, even if they chose not to pursue the so called “pathway to citizenship.”

The burden of proof would be low for illegal aliens to prove that they were continually illegally present in United States. This provision would reward the illegal alien for proving continual illegal presence and illegal employment in the United States with a “Z” visa. This provision in the Kennedy deal, approved by some Republicans, is clearly amnesty under any definition, according to immigration experts whom I consulted.

The proposal would require illegal immigrants to pay a fine to apply for the “Z” visa, but despite that penalty, conservatives are likely characterize this deal as a major sell out to Kennedy and his pro-amnesty allies.

My God, even Jack Cafferty of CNN just spoke out against this pro amnesty agenda.

I hate that I have to agree with Cafferty and not Bush.

Beam me up..

Is it the nothing-can-be-done crowd’s assumption that the fellows who run armies of the ‘undocumented’ from Mexico into America are just kindhearted human smugglers who’d have nothing to do with jihad even if the price was right?

Just out of curiosity, what does the republican party stand for?

We should rebuild the grassroots conservative movement. From the Reagan Revolution of 1980 through the Contract with America in 1994, it was this movement from outside Washington that carried us to the first center-right majority governing coalition in more than 60 years.

The problem has not been with conservatism or with our voters.

The problem has been with Republican leaders who forgot who elected them and what values their supporters expected to see implemented in Washington.

“These visas would be given to people not currently in the United States if they are related to a current illegal worker. “

And how closely related do they have to be? 25th cousin by their mother’s great aunt?

Can we just go back to the way it was before immigration activists brought this to the front burner?

This would be the perfect way to never win an election again.

you mean us? The Demos will rig it such that they will win almost all races. The newly minted citizens will be "told to vote Demo" if they want goodies. They will gladly give the demos a lock on most races. Our country is doomed.

It hurts just imagining what this is going to do to our country. Think it's bad now? Those arrogant La Raza-ites will essentially be taking over everywhere. "Para la prensa dos del inglés."

America has been sold by slave traders masquerading as Congresspersons and Senators, all with the approval of El Presidenté. It's revolting. (and I plan to if this passes)

depressing isn't it? The RINOs and other Reps are selling this Republic down the sewer. We might as well annex Mexico, at least we can get the oil. This amnesty bill will destroy our Republic. How can we ever recover?

Sometimes I think the Borg run the Congress. No matter who we elect or how loudly we the people say “No, our representatives just plow ahead working against us. As described in this article, this would legalize no telling how many tens of millions of new bodies to the US. The GOP may survive as some form of Republicrat, but conservatives are going to be thrown permanently on the ash heap of history and the US as we know it will be the subject of coffee table history books, if those are even published any more.

Jefferson was right. Both parties are selling us out. I truly don't know how our Republic can ever be saved. 9/11 left me very angry, this is leaving me depressed. The cancer of socialism will destroy our country. What can we do?

Another step in destroying this country. We need protection from our own politicians in Washington.
