US filmmaker Michael Moore has challenged Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson for a debate over health care issues.
Both of them have been taking a dig at each other ever since Thompson wrote in the National Review on May 2, an article on the Treasury Department's investigation into whether Moore violated the US trade embargo against Cuba by seeking free treatment for 9/11 responders there.
Moore has now blasted Thompson in a letter over his fondness for Cuban-made Montecristo cigars.
"While I will leave it up to the conservatives to debate your hypocrisy and the Treasury Department to determine whether the 'box upon box of cigars' violates the trade embargo, I hereby challenge you to a health care debate," the New York Daily News quoted the letter posted on the Drudge Report, as stating.
Moore said that he was ready to debate Thompson over the "hundreds of thousands of dollars" that the latter received from the health care industry in campaign contribution, and his "inexplicable" desire to cut funding for AIDS research.
"Our debate would provide you an opportunity to appeal to the right wing of the Republican Party by continuing to attack me; it would give me a chance to discuss health care and tell you exactly what happened in Cuba," Moore wrote in the letter.
"Like [on] 'American Idol,' we could even have the country vote to determine which one of us wins the debate," he told the 'Law & Order' star.
Poor Michael, he still doesn’t know what hit him yesterday. It’s okay honey, give it a week and then try to come up with something a little more clever.
Funny....no mention in the article of Thompson’s rebuke. Guess they don’t want us to find out how clever it was.
It was posted over at DUmmieland, even they called it a “smackdown” if you can believe it! Of course, then some posters cried that mean ol’ Fred was “threatening” Mikey! LOL

Thompson wrote: “Now, I have no expectation that Moore is going to tell the truth about Cuba or health care. I defend his right to do what he does, but Moore’s talent for clever falsehoods has been too well documented. Simply calling his movies documentaries rather than works of fiction, I think, may be the biggest fiction of all.”

I like the term “crockumentaries” for Michael’s films.
Notice that fatboy didn't challenge him to a triathlon.
Moore is a lying tick turd. Nuff said.
I think this line, more than any other truly describes why Michael does what he does. It's a popularity contest, and he MUST be popular. Who cares about facts, let's let a bunch of 12 year old girls text in a vote to see who wins.
Montecristos that are imported to the US are from Cuban see, but made in the Dominican Republic.
Fred really shouldn’t be wasting his time with this guy - it sends a message that the fat p.o.s. is worthy of even a moment of Fred Thompson’s time
That was a great response from Fred Thompson. I believe our next president is showing us that he owns these third rate antagonists like Moore.
Run Fred Run!
Nosotros Recordemos:
I assume you meant Cuban seed. Half the cigars for sale say something about Cuba. It’s pretty a shallow complaint from fatman.
