Derek Jackson, a Bailey Middle School student, was slapped with an in-school suspension because of his "buzz cut."
An assistant principal pulled Derek Jackson aside, after she saw his extremely short haircut. Both Derek and his mother say school told them the haircut violates the school's dress code. A copy of that dress code talks about disruptive hair color and shapes, like a mohawk, that violate the policy, but it makes no mention of hair length.
Derek's mother thinks he was targeted because he is African-American.
From what I have been told by many an African American, African Americans don’t get head lice. Not that these administrators would know that.
They will keep him in suspension and write the kid a check for a million dollars to settle a lawsuit.
Well, obviously the African-Egyptian-Arabian-Persian-Himilayan-Muzzie-American assistant-principal just doesn't like this kid.
The kids' parents ought to move away to a place where names like 'kamilyaalsharifalsharif' only show-up on cans of dog food ............... FRegards
This is a joke right?
No, mom, it's because there are a lot of stupid school administrators out there.
Nice try though.
If there is one white kid at that school with a shaved head that is not in suspension that kid and his mom are going to be very rich.
Thanks for the pic.
If that’s “extreme,” what the heck do those admins consider normal??? a three-foot afro?
Unless he has words sculpted into the back where we can’t see in the photo, that is a very neat, clean look. Handsome lad.
Thanks for the insight. And Welcome to Free Republic.
I heard the kid and his mom on the radio and they did mention that some white kids had shaved heads...so it could get interesting. The kid is back in school but this may not be the end of it.
Then of course, Nelson Linder - NAALCP president - had to put his ten cents in on this subject. The first thing he did, was pull a Je$$e Jack@$$/Al $harpton with the race card.
This kid may have a case if any white or Hispanic kid with a shaved head was not given in school suspension. I still think there is more to this story than the haircut. If that was the only reason, the school administrators need to be fired. By the pictures of them up the thread, they really fit the “Keep Austin Weird” slogan.
The AISD has been in trouble since Pat “Forgone Conclusion” got the superintendent job a few years ago. I’m glad I don’t live in the AISD. The people of Austin will have another court case to pay for and probably damages to this kid.
Education is NOT religiously neutral!
Education is NOT politically neutral!
Education is NOT culturally neutral!
Ir is axiomatic! Government schools are NOT religiously, politically, or culturally neutral! This hair issue is only one among thousands of similar issues.
There are THOUSANDS of government school issues that have only binary consequences: One side wins, and the other side loses.
The decisions that government schools **must** make on THOUSANds of issues that favor one side or the other have **profound** religious, cultural, and political consequences. These consequences are NOT neutral!
No matter what the government school does it **will** establish the culture, politics, and religion of some citizens, and actively trash and crush those of others.
Solution: Begin the process of closing down government schools! Completely privatize universal education in this nation.
I heard some of that show also...and the kid and the mom sounded like someone was coaching them on what to say. Every time Jeff would ask a question about what the mom wanted or if she would sue, there was that long delay. Perhaps she was phoning in from Australia...
I think Nelson Linder may have been on the phone doing the coaching. Jeff didn’t want to ask some questions like “Was there anything else that you did to provoke this suspension”?
I’d have liked to hear what the kid would have answered to that. I don’t think the haircut was the only problem.
Are you listening to KLBJ now? That wreck on Palmer must be a mess.
Betcha betcha...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I betcha betcha you’re right!
Education is NEVER politically, culturally, or religiously neutral, and this “hair case” ( I betcha betcha) falls under the category of political.
By the way, I wonder if the administrators of this school are homosexuals, many are.
Good lookin kid IMHO. The world has gone nuts.
More idiocy from the overeducated morons in our Government Indoctrination Centers.
These three look like Teacher Ratchets. I bet the two on the left are lesbians. The homos are making serious in roads within the educational-industrial-complex.
