George Lopez, the first Latino to lead a television series successfully, isn't laughing. "TV just became really, really white again," he said. Georgelopeztp ABC, he said, has "unceremoniously" canceled his self-titled comedy, which over the years chronicled his personal life from his sad childhood growing up with an abusive grandmother, to his alcoholism and kidney transplant. "The George Lopez Show" will live on in syndication, but that's not making Lopez feel better about not getting the chance to tell one final season of stories. Lopez said Steve McPherson, ABC president of prime-time entertainment, called him over the weekend to explain that "financially" it wasn't working out, that the network would lose money if it picked up the show again. That explanation was painful to hear, Lopez said, considering the way the network has shuffled his show over the years -- four different time slots in five years -- and putting it up against "American Idol" time and time again. It all contributed to the show's low ratings, a point not lost on Lopez who noted that this season his show out-performed two freshman comedies that were renewed: "Notes from the Underbelly" and "Knights of Prosperity." "Ill take the good and the bad," Lopez said. "I took the five years of good and I did a lot with the good. My popularity, I was involved in charities, I overcame my illness, all on TV. I shared all of that with Americaevery secret I had. Every personal feeling. Every emotion. Everything was open to the show. And what happens?" Lopez said he attributed the cancellation in part to the fact that the show is produced by Warner Bros. Television, and not ABC Television Studios. Using some colorful language that cannot be printed in a family newspaper,

I grew tired of Hispanic Everybody Loves Raymond years ago.
I thought “Everybody Loves Raymond was Italian.”
Back in the 70s there was “Chico and The Man.” Definitely Hispanic.
What is it with HBO and the leftist tilt? I saw that Lopez special also. Every night it’s Bill Maher’s propaganda show, all of the specials are liberal, and all of the comedians are leftists. I just watched the latest George Carlin special. Boy is he a bitter, hate-filled old man. I think I only laughed once.
I find myself insulted by this comment and demand the immediate cancellation of his show!
One Hundred YEARS in Films and Television! Show of hands...who really thought that George was the FIRST of his race to break through 'The Taco Curtain?'
Cameron Diaz? I always thought she was a 'Boring White Chick' like me; much prettier, though much less talented, LOL!
And Jimmy Smits? One word: Yummy!
Shhhh... Ricardo Montalban is a republican so he doesn’t count as authentically Latino. Only libs like George Lopez matter and when their shows are cancelled it is a tragedy.
Oh yeah, count the “Black” shows, sitcoms, etc. George Lopez show didn’t make it because he’s a liberal activist, vulgar jerk who isn’t all that funny.

The indigenous peoples of Mexico and the rest of Latin America are practically invisible as hosts and stars on Spanish language TV in the U.S. There are no black women like Oprah Winfrey hosting talk shows. I don’t know about Mexico. As far as I can see, there is no outcry from the Hispanic community in this country concerning the racist nature of networks like Telemundo and Univision.
Mexicans are white.
Then Lopez lifted the award speech notes, and the USSS came after him. He wanted a presidential souvenir (with his name), *they* wanted it for presidential papers/archives...
(*they* did make a copy for him.)
Dang he didnt use the race card -he merely stated the obvious that TV is dominated by White people-and his show being cancelled would make it even whitier thats a fact!although i odnt agree with what he said -it sounds bitter and small-its the truth!
Everything on prime-time network TV is garbage, anyhow.

His ego is appalling. Like he is the only hope of Latino TV.
This isn’t the first time a TV show has been canceled with not much of a courtesy phone call.
He’s a bit of a wanker if you ask me.
“TV just became really, really white again”
Up yours! Mr Mestizo!
I loved his commentary on coming to Hawaii - he got off the plane and everybody here looked like beeaners! And he's right - he could pass for local any day.
I’m insulted too but more amused by yet another racist who won’t be labeled such because he couldn’t possibly be one since he’s a minority. Race baiting and hate mongering at its best.
I didn’t think he was funny, does that make me a racist? Apparently, it does in his opinion. So happy I don’t give a damn what he thinks.
You can’t be insulted and it’s not racist since he made a derogatory comment against whites - that’s allowed. We all know white are the scum of the earth, especially white males, they’re the worst. No negative comments about any other race is allowed. You also can make derogatory comments about Christians, we accept those, but don’t you dare make a negative comment about any non-Christian religion. (I’m being sarcastic, just it case it wasn’t obvious).
Whaaaat? Who's he kidding? His show was low-rated from the get-go. Freddie Prince and Chico and the Man was the first successful Latino program.
"TV just became really, really white again," he said.
What a pathetic comment. Does George Lopez really think his is the only show to be screwed by inept, wishy-washy scheduling and stiff competition?!? There were hundreds of other shows over the years that could legitimately make that complaint, some of which were certainly more brilliantly crafted than The George Lopez Show. NewsRadio comes to mind.
Shame on him. What a bigot.
