LISBON, Portugal The home of a British man was being searched Monday by police looking for missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in Portugal on May 3.
The man, Robert Murat, was taken to a police station.
His mother told Sky News that he has not been arrested. She said no trace of Madeleine had been found at the villa.
The property is just 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine's family were staying, in the southern Portuguese resort of Praia Da Luz.

McCann vanished May 3 after her parents left her, and her brother and sister, both aged 2, alone while they went to a nearby restaurant within their hotel complex at Praia da Luz, a vacation resort in Portugal's Algarve region. Police last week called off their ground search but are following various leads.

WHAT were these parents THINKING?
“McCann vanished May 3 after her parents left her,
and her brother and sister, both aged 2,
alone
while they went to a nearby restaurant within their hotel complex at Praia da Luz, a vacation resort in Portugal’s Algarve region.”
It almost makes you wonder if the PARENTS are involved.
especially when the rental has roll down steel doors for the windows.
Exactly. What sane parent leaves children that age alone?
WHAT were these parents THINKING?
&&&
It truly is mind-boggling. Surely, they could have hired a babysitter. Resorts such as this probably offer such services. Idiots!
The parents are lucky all three children weren’t taken.
“How in the world do you leave ALONE two - two year olds and a four year old in a hotel room and have dinner with your spouse in another country?”
You don’t! This is all so sad! I am so thankful my kids are all in their twenties and adults in their own right now. It is so scary to think of a missing young child like this. My heart is with them.
of course if the guy came in a window and took her that way, that can happen with parents home, think of E Smart and Polly K
The innocent pay for the stupidity of others. I pray the little girl is found alive.
Imagine if a fire had broken out. Maybe the parents subliminally wanted something to happen to them.
I feel bad for the parents but have to agree.. If they did this in the U.S., the kids would be with the local DCFS now and the parents would be in jail on charges of neglect.
From the resort's website:
Childcare
Mark Warners superb childcare facilities for all ages from four months upwards are available and a unique service on offer at the Ocean Club is our Dine Out option. As accommodations are spread throughout the village, we offer to keep an eye on the little ones while you go out to eat - just drop them at our kids club, ready for bed and pick them up when youve finished.
I heard on the news some felt she might have been taken by child porn ring...
It was mentioned that European parents are more "enlightened" about leaving their little ones alone than we silly Americans.
It sounded as though since this is a common practice, someone may have targeted the family.
Sick on all fronts.
I certainly hope many "enlightened" parents think twice before they leave their little ones alone again.
May the good Lord wrap His arms around this little girl.
I wonder why celebrities are stepping up to the plate for this particular little girl? Guilt, perhaps?
A few years ago we left our almost 11 year old with our 9 year old twins to go to dinner at a resort in Oregon. It was a huge deal for us, and we kept on checking on them every half hour. This was a small, family resort.
I can’t imagine leaving a 4 year old and two 2 year olds.
25 years ago it was not uncommon in Britain to see a pram with infant/young toddler outside the front door of a pub. The parents would leave the baby and go in and have lunch. I was always shocked to see this.
“I heard on the news some felt she might have been taken by child porn ring...”
So did I.
IF the parents were around and NOT leaving two
two year olds and a four year old ALONE,
it would be allot more difficult to kidnap, don’t ya think?
