Free Trade Sunlight

Commerce: After two years of gloom, Congress has seized the lead on free trade. Its green light for Peru and Panama pacts strengthens our allies and breaks a trail for bipartisanship. This is real progress.

The accord Congress reached Thursday with the Bush administration marks the first true act of bipartisanship since the Democrats won Congress in 2006. The bickering's gone, and this time the vote was more than "symbolic."

Members like Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., showed leadership in bringing back free trade from its moribund state. His office tells us he was tired of Congress' do-nothingism and wanted to work.

His example and others marks a return to more productive times, as in 1993 when Republicans and Democrats came together to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement. Those involved say agreement was reached in an atmosphere very different from the arm-twisting politics of 2005's Central American Free Trade Pact, which narrowly passed in a Republican Congress.

Fast TracK authority makes trade agreements possible. Without it, everything gets gummed up in congress, until far-left radical groups and communist labor unions and other codepink activist freaks can make a hash of it all. All of these groups are rabidly opposed to free trade.

LOL Tell the writers of the constitution that. Any other checks and balances you want to eliminate? Any other Americans you want to disenfranchise ?

Maybe if your lucky you will not get any of the tainted food or meds from China that pacts like this bring to our door.

Yep!

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Pastor Martin Niemöller

Like a dumb frog put in cold water and brought slowly to the boiling point , some people are short sighted enough not to see the long term effects of giving away your rights, your nation, and your industry till it is upon them.

There will be no one left to help out old kitten

The same crew that bitch about the "blame America first" crowd are often the same ones that want to blame American workers first or blame those that want the constitution followed or that want to build American and employ Americans and protect our borders first.

It may be time for a new Boston Tea party

Natural resources and scrap metal?

Is that all we export to China? You have any numbers to back that up?

The Founders had that party because they didn't want trade restrictions on their tea.

I'm glad you agree with me and the Founders that restrictions are bad.

How much do we manufacture?

Or can't you count that high? Use your crayons. Oops, they're from China. LOL!

“he same argument was used to justify trade with China. See how that works?’

Well, yeah. China’s going increasingly capitalist, our economy is booming, unemployment is holding at record lows, and I save fifteen to twenty percent on purchases I make at Wal-Mart.

Good times.

Good times? That's what the wealthy were having on the Titanic.

We can either buy from China, which is an enemy, or buy from Colombia, which is a loyal and faithful pro-American friend. Because we are going to buy from one of them. You decide.

Please show me how the legislation, you posted about, is going to help the US transfer its existing trade with China to Colombia.

Look. If you have something constructive to say, feel free to ping me. If you plan to ping me everytime you’re jealous of the Chinese communists, and wish to demonstrate your love of how they do business, don’t waste your time.

The way you build the usa is through free trade. all of our railroads, our early infrastructure, our skyscrapers, all the money that went in to explore the wild west - it was british and french foreign capital that did it. You can read all about it in the writings of Thomas Sowell. without that investment, we’d be bolivia, a total dump full of leftists. free trade is what helped us get rich and wealth helped increase our freedom.

I’m not a neocon, by the way. That crew is keynesian, they are essentially leftist on economics. that’s why i can’t stand them, they don’t know jack about economics. I am more of a libertarian, and i love capitalism. socialism is evil and produces the same ruin every place it’s tried.

Don’t be silly. I think you’re projecting - you certainly aren’t able to recognize any economic reality, that’s for sure. Your views are identical, repeat, identical, to those of Hugo Chavez. Think about it.

The manufacturing base is not vanishing, we are manufacturing more in america than we ever did in our $111 trillion economy. We also have services and other sectors that are second to none.

it’s not against the constitution. If it were, it wouldn’t be done. There are too many leftwing lawyers who would have stopped it.
