SALT LAKE CITY -- Radio relationship guru Laura Schlessinger, in Salt Lake City on Friday to speak to Army families at Fort Douglas, said she was tired of hearing the complaints of lonely and overwhelmed military wives whose husbands are deployed. "He could come back without arms, legs or eyeballs, and you're (whining)?" Schlessinger asked before taking the stage at the base theater to host her daily program on ethics, morals and values. "You're not dodging bullets, so I don't want to hear any whining -- that's my message to them."
Schlessinger boasted that she once talked a young woman out of marrying a soldier, noting that "warriors need warrior wives" and that she felt the woman was unprepared.

I have a sister who is very similar to Dr. Laura’s talk,
my sister is an orthodontist who hates children. She has a very successful business too....amazes me.
Dr Laura is 100% correct, no doubt about it. The last thing a Soldier wants to worry about while deployed is the well being of his wife and kids. If the spouse is weak and needy the Soldier cannot focus on his or her duties. If a Soldier cannot focus he or she is no good and even a detriment to their team.
I’ve had Soldiers who’s wives didn’t know how to drive, couldn’t speak english, won’t go out without their husband, can’t write a check, and screw up the finances.
Then there is the 18 year old, newly wed bride who finds herself alone in Germany or some other foreign country and cannot cope and nearly has a mental break down and then the husband needs to come home of furlough to sort things out only to go directly back to Iraq. Yes, this is true because I have seen it and it happens too often for my liking.
For its part the Army does try to counter those situations with Family Readiness Groups and an extensive social network but some spouses are so cloistered that nothing helps.
I thank G-d every day that I am blessed with a warrior wife who is independant, smart, beautiful, and a great mother. I know for a fact that I couldn’t do my job over here without her back home holding down the fort and doing a better job than I could.
Most soldiers will tell you that their job is easy compared to what the spouses have to go through. My wife doesn’t get a day off while we get the occasional down time and “96”. We dont have to worry about going to the commissary and making sure the kids are fed. We simply go to the chow hall. We dont have to get two or three other people up in the morning and bathe and clothe and feed them and get them off to school and then get ready for work ourselves. We just wake up put on the uniform and go to our job. We dont have to stay up with sick kids or take them to the ER at two in the morning with a 102 degree fever. We go to sick call and get “quarters” rest for 24 hours. We dont have to go shopping for school clothes. We just need money to get a few uniform items at the PX. If the car breaks down we dont have to worry about getting it towed and figuring out the cheapest and quickest way to get it back on the road. A Soldier radios the motor sgt with coordinates. I could go on but you get the picture.
I may be oversimplifying but again, many Soldiers will tell you that the spouse at home has it tougher than the deployed Soldier. G-d bless all Military Spouses.
Not necessarily.
What degree would make her acceptable in your opinion? She worked hard to get whatever advanced degree, presumably a PhD, regardless of the subject. Most of the people on talk radio don’t even have a degree.
BTW, too bad she can’t give the whiners 50 laps.
The reaction of the women in my grandfather's life was all too typical of that of XX Chromosome carrier's towards men when they return from war.
He knows them all ;-)
Sometimes some people need a little Dr.Laura action. I just find her style...irritating. I guess your sister can be a good orthodontist because she doesn’t have to keep any of the kids :D
I was hoping to get you to admit that there isn't a sex tape of her. People who don't like her are eager to believe every negative thing they read and hear about her, and they don't care enough to do research. I'm sure there are Lauraphobes who read your post and now think there is a sex tape.
It's called a title... that matches a level of achievement. Next you'll say you do 'air quotes' when you address the head of the joint chiefs, "General" Pace. (try the air quotes with that marine... but let me know where and when, i'd like to get some popcorn and watch the ass whoppin)
There are a lot of you folks here who don’t seem to know what a physiologist does or that it is the PhDs who train the MDs. The PhD degree existed before the clinical MD degree was even contemplated.
Dr. Detroit!
Most people who are degreed enough to be universally respected aren't on the radio, and if they were, some people would still hate them. Rush Limbaugh is a college dropout, but he's the top radio host in history.
One Weird Woman.
I didn't even know he had a doctor's degree until after he died.
He was also a combat pilot in the Pacific, and felt that serving his country was his greatest accomplishment.
Dr. J
"What's Up Doc?"
Oh good God! No lack of ego in this woman, is there? al Qaida will no doubt target her kid in an attempt to destroy marriage in the U.S.
Laura Schlessinger is such a fraud...
Could be, but she does have a son serving in Iraq and she knows how difficult it is to have a loved one over there.
So what, I still would never listen to Dr. Phil.
I like Dr. Laura. I wish I could still get her show on the radio.
Being married to the same man for almost 49 years, I can attest to the hard work it takes to just be civil to each other from day to day.
