Didn’t Tommy Franks write in his book that we would be in Iraq with major force for ten years and then double that or more with a protective response force to protect the region?

I personally think that will be true for Britain even if in a very scaled down presence. Others I know disagree but if you look at history most places where there has been substantial presence of any country’s military they are represented in some form for many years in some cases semi permanent.

That’s what I keep telling the domestic partner, who is totally against the Iraq war because “those people have been fighting over there for 4 thousand years and we aren’t gonna stop them, etc.”

We just need to think of a new name for keeping forces in Iraq for a while. I mean, how long have we had people in Germany? How long did we keep people in Japan and Korea (still in Korea, I think)

The casualties over there, while even one is horrible, are relatively minor and played up to an immoral extent by the media.

Peacekeeping Force? Observers?
