Venezuelan Oil Losing Share of Key U.S. Market
Washington Post ^ | March 12, 2007 | Juan Forero

Posted on 05/12/2007 2:03:23 PM PDT by Kaslin

CARACAS, Venezuela -- When the state oil company recently took over the last privately run oil fields in Venezuela, President Hugo Chávez declared it a victory against Washington and a giant leap toward a new energy policy that would diversify the market for Venezuelan crude to include rising powers like China.

"Down with the American Empire!" shouted Chávez, who often warns that he'll shut off the oil spigot to the United States if the Bush administration invades Venezuela or hatches an assassination plot against him.

But new study of trade and oil consumption data shows that Venezuela appears ever more dependent on selling its oil to the country Chávez calls "the cruelest, most terrible, most cynical, most murderous empire that has existed." And U.S. government energy trade data show the United States is slightly less dependent on Venezuela, which at one time challenged Canada, Mexico and Saudi Arabia as the No. 1 provider of foreign oil but now tussles with up-and-coming Nigeria for the fourth spot.

I can’t wait for him to declare war on us like Noriega did in the late ‘80s. Welcome to the jungle *&#hole.

He’s not crying yet and every time I pass a Citgo, morons are still in there filling their tanks.

We should do to Citgo what blubberboy has done to all the oil companys in Venezuela. But to make it look legal, divide them up between the US oil campanies that didn’t receive fair compensation for their confiscated equipment.

But we won’t.

Wouldn't likely happen if the so-called *plot* was successful ........

I’ve been boycotting CITGO ever since that a$$hole got himself elected President.

What is puzzling to me is that the Navy Exchange still sells CITGO gas.

The good news is that not many folks at Navy Jax buy the stuff — used to be long lines on FRidays and weekends to buy gas. Now, no problem getting to a pump. Which is bad news for Chavez (and also the Navy Exchange).

I don’t have a problem with hurting Chavez, but some of the NEX profits fund the Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation program.

So, official government policy is hurting Sailors and Marines!

If I were the President of the United States, I’d issue an Executive Order terminating all US government contracts with CITGO. Force the Exchange system to use American gas!

He'll show us by nationalizing all oil production so his spigot will trickle to a stop.

Since I have never used CITGO gas there was never any need for me to boycott them, but now I would rather pay 10 cents a gallon more then stop at a CITGO station

You raise a good point. In the past, we have hit back at dictators who confiscated the property of our companies. We have confiscated their goods and frozen their bank accounts. Why let Venezuela get away with these crimes and not hit back at them?

Even this article treats Venezuela’s threat to stop selling to us as a serious threat.

Its a world market. If he sells to anyone, its the same as selling to everyone. If he sells to us, or to someone else, its the same effect.

His economy depends completely on oil, he has no other product to sell. He sells oil or there is blood in the streets and he’s a former dictator walking his dog on a beach in Mallorca.

In other words, we are not dependent on Venezuelan oil, but he is completely dependent upon it. He is hostage to his oil, we aren’t.

I will not buy gas at a Citgo station, period. If the left hadn’t castrated the CIA Chavez would already have assumed room temperature.

They get what they deserve.
Socialists voted him in, now they are stuck with him.
Try to pry his big butt out of power even in free elections if there ever will be any again.
While those with anything leave the country to try to keep what they’ve worked for instead of giving to those that don’t.

"It's three months by tanker to China, five days to the East Coast of the United States, so the American client is too important for Venezuela."

Chavez's strategy is typical Socialist thought.

Every Citgo station in my area has either gone out of business, changed to another brand, or covered up the Citgo signs.

I NEVER EVER buy CITGO either and haven't since he took office, but I go on a bad guilt trip about once/week for half the year. TB racing on ESPN has as it's sole sponsor CITGO. I have written ESPN and said it's a shame they allow CITGO to sponsor anything on their airwaves, but I guess as long as there is nobody else beating a path to their door to be a sponsor, it will continue and I'll keep watching and feeling guilty.

CITGO =

Bright Red 76 Gas Signs coupled with a 7/11 in the Hot, Hot West

.

I guess gassing up & getting an ice cold drink out there can certainly wait till Hell freezes over for me.
