Studio 60" is over. Some news services are reporting that the sets have been struck, others are talking about the new dramas NBC has ordered to replace last May's "sure thing."
But this much is known: On Monday, NBC will formally announce the end, thank God, of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."
One of the most expensive hours in TV history, "Studio 60" was a goner even before it hit the airwaves. The ill-conceived drama about a comedy sketch show wasn't funny or tense, it was simply annoying.
The real back story of "Studio 60" is what will remain the legend. Once NBC's Jeff Zucker put Aaron Sorkin's take on the backstage doings of "Saturday Night Live" into motion, the decision caused an uproar.
"SNL" creator Lorne Michaels jumped into the fray and wasn't going to have some pretentious fools on the West Coast muscle in on his territory. He insisted that NBC add his comedy, "30 Rock," to the schedule.
Michaels, of course, got the last laugh; "30 Rock" has been renewed. It's a hit. Alec Baldwin has won awards for his work, while Tina Fey was named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2007. The show is funny.
Meanwhile, Sorkin and company have cost the network millions that they will never recoup, even on DVD sales that were targeted at weird "West Wing" geeks who tuned in less and less each week.

Okay, someone post a picture of Fey, with or without her cloth—, er, reading glasses.
Maybe the show made more sense on shrooms.
I’ve never even heard of this show. Doesn’t matter, I wouldn’t have watched it anyway...
I own 5 TV’s and never heard of this show.
I only watch 30 Rock for Tina and her writing. Frankly, I’m surprised the show was renewed, but happy for her. If Baldwin bails, the show will fail, sinking under the weight of Tracy Morgan.
This was a good show. Too bad. The ode to Cleveland was great last week, as was Tina on the street in NYC. Always watched “The Office” and “Studio 60”. Why the inane “Scrubs” is still on the air is beyond comprehension (and was the subject of a funny “MadTV” parody last weekend).
I meant 30 Rock is a great show, not Studio 60.
Alec Bladwin and that bitch Tina Fey on one show?!? No thanks.
Hope that turd gets canned as well.
I mean bigger than Huffinton in the NY circuit... she didn’t get on Times “most influential” list by accident.
In NY she is queen bee of the crazy kooks and ISN’T shy about injecting it into her projects.
30 Rock...
Isn’t that that show about the aliens with John Lithgow?
Good for her. She’s sharp, bright and edgy.
It doesn’t even get a chance with me... same with Moral Oral.
And I’m glad Tina is bright... just like sKerry and Kennedy are ‘bright’. She is a political ‘comedian’, and thats fine... just like the enjoys the benefits from that, she also gets the baggage.
It’s not like she’s on Air America, FN. Lighten up.
Like I said.. thats fine for her if thats what she wants to be, but along with it is the utter refusal for me to even give 30 rock a chance.
Doesn’t mean others can’t watch it or that it will fail... only that I turn it off and haven’t watched a single episode, nor will I for as long as it happens to last.
Having Alec Baldwin on as another “main character” isn’t helping either.
Air America, NBC one in the same.
I really, really wanted to like this show, even from the West Wing guy. I like Matthew Perry and it sounded like a fun premise.
It was a disaster from the first. Perry was ill used and surly most of the time, wasting his natural charm.
It never seemed to know where it was going and the snippets from the so-called comedy show that was being produced were beyond not funny.
It seems like they could have done something neat with that concept but .... I stuck with it for 3 or 4 episodes and that was it.
That would be one fun girl to argue politics with.
Al Franken had complete creative control, eh?
